Willow Forest is a rain-fed overworld forest biome added by Regions Unexplored. It is built around willow trees, which have a custom foliage shape and their own root placer. It is one of the three forests in the mod's forest group. In Fear Nightfall it covers about 0.24% of the land surface, so it is an uncommon biome, but its monster table is long and includes several horror mobs from Born in Chaos.
A player should care about Willow Forest because it combines the ordinary overworld ores with a dense mix of horror monsters and horror structures. It is a place to mine and gather wood, but it is not a quiet one.
Description
Willow Forest has a temperature of 0.6 and a downfall of 0.5, and it rains rather than snows. Its grass is a muted green (#7aa367) and its foliage is a slightly brighter green (#76af60). The water is deep blue (#3f76e4), the fog is pale blue (#c0d8ff) and the sky is blue (#79a6ff). The biome uses the vanilla forest music and the cave ambience.
The main trees are willow trees. Willow trees are the most common tree in the biome's tree group, and big willow trees are the second most common. The group also places small oak trees and blue magnolia trees, so the forest is not made of willows alone. The shrub group places willow shrubs and blue magnolia shrubs.
Ground cover is the usual overworld grass and dirt. Trees are placed four times per chunk attempt, so the forest is dense.
Generation
Willow Forest is one of the three biomes in the Regions Unexplored forest group. The group is split by temperature: Willow Forest is enabled only where the temperature is below -0.1, which puts it in the cooler part of the forest range. The other two forests in the group are Maple Forest, which takes the middle band, and Old Growth Forest, which takes the warm band. The forest group has a weight of 50 in the mod's default settings.
In Fear Nightfall the biome covers about 0.24% of the land surface and about 0.03% of the cave layer at y = -30. It is not one of the biomes that the pack weights at 6× for horror, so its horror content comes from the structures and monsters that the pack places in it rather than from the biome weight.
Features
- Trees: a tree group with willow (weight 5), big willow (weight 3), small oak and blue magnolia (weight 1 each). The tree group is placed four times per chunk attempt.
- Shrubs: a shrub group with willow shrub (weight 3) and blue magnolia shrub. Shrubs are placed on about one in four chunk attempts.
- Flowers: a willow flower patch of felicia daisy, blue lupine, cornflower and allium. Flower patches are placed on about one in four chunk attempts and are not placed in water.
- Plants: sparse fern and sparse short grass patches from Regions Unexplored, pumpkin patches, sugar cane, wild flax and cave urns from Supplementaries, and wild carrots and wild onions from Farmer's Delight.
- Silk cocoons: both ground and hanging silk cocoons from Critters and Companions generate in the biome.
- Ores: the standard overworld ore set, including coal, copper, iron, gold, lapis, redstone, and diamond in its normal, buried and large forms. The biome also places Born in Chaos infected diamond ore, sulfur ore from Butchery, and mithril ore from Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks.
The willow wood set includes logs, planks, leaves, branches, shrubs, saplings, the usual wooden blocks, boats and chest boats. Willow wood is craftable from the start.
Mobs and structures
The monster table is long. The most common monsters are spiders, skeletons, creepers and slimes at the top weight, followed by zombies. Among the rarer entries, the biome includes Dread Hound, Krampus, Mother Spider, Nightmare Stalker, Mr. and Mrs. Pumpkin, Sir Pumpkinhead, and the Slime Golem and Honey Golem from Golem Overhaul. Passive animals include sheep, pigs, cows, chickens, foxes and wolves, and the ambient insects and bats are listed alongside them. The full tables are generated below.
Underground and water spawns are also listed. Glow squids spawn in underground water, and a range of fish and cave fish spawn in water inside the biome. The full lists are in the tables below.
The biome can generate about 186 structures, most of them from the pack's horror and village mods. Notable structures include the Dark Tower from Born in Chaos, the Infernal Pumpkin Patch, Baba Yaga's Hut from Hexerei, the Illager Hideout and Manor from Nova Structures, and dead-tree ruins from the Graveyard mod. Structures from horror mods are placed about 30% closer together in the pack than in the mods' defaults, so they are common in forests like this one.

Tips
- Flower patches do not grow in water, so the flowers only appear on dry ground.
- The ore set is the full overworld set, so a mine dug under this biome reaches diamonds and the pack's mithril and sulfur ore at normal depths.
- The monster table is long and dense. Carry a sword and a shield, and expect horror mobs at night as well as in the dark under the trees.
- Willow wood is craftable from the start and makes boats, chest boats and signs, so this biome is a good place to collect early wood.
- Structures from the pack's horror mods are frequent here, so expect fights when exploring for loot.
