Painted Planks are 48 decorative building blocks added by Regions Unexplored (regions_unexplored). They come in 16 dye colours, and each colour has a planks block, a stairs block and a slab block. The planks are the base material and the stairs and slabs are crafted from them. In Fear Nightfall the set is effectively unavailable: the pack leaves the mod's painted planks option off, which disables the only recipe that makes the planks.

Obtaining

In Fear Nightfall, painted planks cannot be obtained in survival play. The recipe for the planks is part of the optional datapack overlay overlay.painted_planks, which the mod gates behind its painted_planks config option. That option is off by default, and Fear Nightfall keeps it at false in the Regions Unexplored common config. With the option off, no recipe produces the planks, so the stairs and slabs cannot be crafted either.

The sources checked give no other way to obtain the blocks. Their loot tables are break drops only, and the mod's data contains no chest loot, mob drops, trades or natural generation for them. A player can still place and use the blocks if they obtain them outside survival, for example in creative mode or with commands.

If the option is enabled, the planks regain their recipe. The stairs and slab recipes are part of the base mod data and are present either way. See the crafting section below.

Breaking

Each painted block drops itself when broken, and the drop survives explosions. A double slab drops two slabs.

The stairs and slab recipes take the planks of their own colour, so the recipe grids above show what each block needs. The planks recipe is part of the disabled overlay. When the option is on, it takes eight planks from the minecraft:planks item tag around one dye of the matching colour in a 3×3 grid, with the dye in the centre, and yields eight painted planks. The dye ingredient uses the common c:dyes tags, so any dye of the right colour works.

Usage

The blocks are plain wooden building blocks with the same tool and strength profile as vanilla planks:

  • Hardness: 2, and blast resistance 3.
  • Tool: axe.
  • Flammable: yes.
  • Fuel: a planks block or stairs block burns for 1.5 items in a furnace, and a slab for 0.75 items.
  • Stack size: 64 for all 48 blocks.

Every painted planks block is in the minecraft:planks item tag, so any recipe that takes planks by tag accepts a painted planks block.

The stairs have facing, half and shape states, and the slabs have top, bottom and double types. Both can be waterlogged.
