The Ancient Delta is an underground cave biome added by Regions Unexplored. It is a cave with argillite floors and ceilings, sparse plant cover, and lava lakes. It is rare in the cave layer of Fear Nightfall, so a player finds it only occasionally. Its hostile mobs come from several mods in the pack, including vanilla monsters, Born in Chaos variants and Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks mobs.
Description
The Ancient Delta is a cave biome, so almost all of it lies underground. The cave carvers used are the vanilla cave, extra underground cave and canyon carvers, so the biome has the usual winding tunnels and wide chambers of the overworld cave layer.
The floor is covered in argillite, a stone added by Regions Unexplored, in patches rather than as a single even layer. The ceiling is argillite as well. Where the floor is underwater it is covered in argillite grass block instead.
The biome's special effects set the colours: grass is #f8ff84 (pale yellow), foliage is #659c58 (green), water is #33ffff (bright cyan), fog is #c0d8ff and sky is #79a6ff. Its mood sound is the vanilla cave ambience, played every 6000 ticks, and its music is the vanilla lush caves track.
Vegetation is sparse but varied. The placed plant features include sugar cane, pumpkin patches, tall grass, bladed grass, dropleaf, duskmelon, corpse flowers, wild flax and cave urns from Supplementaries. Glow lichen and red and brown mushrooms also grow here. The dusktrap and duskmelon plants from Regions Unexplored are placed in the biome; see the Features section below for how they behave.
The biome also has spring water and spring lava sources and a calcite pool feature from Regions Unexplored.
Generation
Ancient Delta is a cave biome in the overworld. It has a temperature of 1.125 and a downfall of 0.8, and it uses rain as its precipitation. In the Regions Unexplored biome table it replaces the vanilla Dripstone Caves where the humidity is below -0.4, so it generates in the dry parts of the cave layer. The biome is rare. Its share of the cave layer at y = -30 is 0.01% in the mod's generation data. The infobox shows its share of the land in Fear Nightfall.
Ancient Delta is not one of the biomes that Fear Nightfall weights at 6× for horror content, so it gets no extra horror weighting from the pack's spookier-world changes. The pack also halves the spawn weights of Born in Chaos mobs, which lowers their share of the mob cap from 36% to about 26%.
Features
The biome has a set of ore features taken from the vanilla overworld cave layer. The list includes vanilla coal, iron, gold, redstone, lapis, copper, diamond and the usual granite, diorite, andesite, tuff, dirt and gravel veins. Several ores come from other mods in the pack: infected diamond ores from Born in Chaos, a sulfur ore from Butchery and a Mithril ore from Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks. The black argillite stone from Born in Chaos is placed here too; see Black Argillite.
The biome has underground and surface lava lakes, a vanilla amethyst geode, and the vanilla monster room features (a dark dungeon chamber with spawners).
The mod's own plant features are the most important special blocks:
- Dusktrap is a two-block-high trap. Any entity standing inside its footprint takes 3.0 damage per tick, is held in place, and makes the block emit a redstone signal of 15 while occupied. The trap resets after a timer once it is empty.
- Duskmelon is a crop-like plant. Its fruit can be eaten for Blindness, see Regions Unexplored for the full mechanics.
Mobs and structures
The biome's hostile mob list is long. The most common monsters are spiders, skeletons, creepers and slimes, each with a spawn weight of 100, with zombies at 95. Born in Chaos adds a large set of monsters, including Dread Hound, Necromancer (from Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks) and Dark Vortex. Slime Golem also spawns in the biome. The full monster table is generated in the section below.
The ambient list includes coal golems and bats. The water lists include axolotls, glow squid, Corpse Fish and a number of tropical and Regions Unexplored fish.
The biome can hold 87 structures from the mods in the pack, including vanilla mineshafts. The structure table below is generated from the game data.

Tips
- Bring light. The biome's monster list is wide, and the caves are dark enough that spawns can appear close to a player.
- Watch for dusktraps. An entity inside one takes 3.0 damage per tick and is held in place, so clear a path around the plant before walking through the area.
- A dusktrap emits a redstone signal of 15 while occupied, which makes it usable as a tripwire on a redstone circuit.
- Keep a water bucket on hand near the lava lakes, and avoid digging downward into open lava.
- Because the biome is rare, search the dry parts of the cave layer rather than the whole cave layer.
