Icy Heights is a cold mountain biome added by Regions Unexplored. It is a snow-covered highland of pine trees, rock outcrops and powder snow. It is one of the rarest biomes in Fear Nightfall, covering 0.01% of the land surface, and its spawn table is heavy with horror mobs, so a player should expect danger at night.
Description
Icy Heights has a snowy surface. Snow blocks cover the terrain above water, powder snow pockets appear in the layer just beneath it, and packed ice forms deep below the floor. The biome plays the frozen-peaks music.
Its colours are muted. Grass is tinted #75c48b and foliage #68ba6f. Water is #3f76e4, fog is #c0d8ff and the sky is #7fa1ff. Temperature is -1 and downfall is 0.7, with snow as the precipitation.
Generation
Icy Heights replaces parts of three vanilla biomes: Ice Spikes, Snowy Plains and Snowy Taiga. It only generates where erosion is between 0.45 and 0.55, continentalness is below 0.03 and weirdness is above 0. That places it on high, eroded ground away from the coast.
Its share of the land surface is 0.01%. It is not one of the horror biomes given 6× weight by the pack. It does have many horror structures and mobs in its spawn list, so its danger comes from what it contains rather than from how common it is. The biome carries the vanilla stronghold_biased_to tag, which makes strongholds more likely to generate here.
Features
- Pine trees. Trees come from the pine natural set. Most are stripped mountain pines (weight 40), with pine shrubs (weight 9) and dead stripped mountain pines (weight 1).
- Fallen pines. Fallen pine logs lie on snow where the ground is dry.
- Rocks. Rock clusters are made of mixed stone (weight 2) and mixed cobblestone (weight 1).
- Plants. Frozen grass patches and snowy flower patches grow on the surface. See Regions Unexplored Plants and Regions Unexplored Flowers.
- Ores and vegetation. Ore generation follows the standard overworld set. It also includes the infected diamond ores from Born in Chaos and mithril ore from Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks. Sugar cane and pumpkin patches also generate.
- Water. Frozen fish from the Tide mod spawn in this biome's water, along with the water-creature pool that includes Corpse Fish and Glutton Fish.
Mobs and structures
The spawn tables below are generated from the game data. The most common hostile mobs here are Spider, Creeper, Slime, Zombie and Stray, all with weights of at least 80. Ghoul, Revenant and Slime Golem each have a weight of 25.
Several cold-specific entries come from other mods. Ice Spiders patrol the biome under the Iron's Spells rules, and the Ice Spider Den structure is placed here. Ghouls and Revenants come from The Graveyard mod, and Slime Golems from the Golem Overhaul mod.
Some of the pack's most dangerous mobs appear with low weights, including Nightmare, Dread Hound, Spiders Mother and Krampus. The rarest entries have a weight of 1 or 2, such as Mutant Enderman, Mutant Skeleton, Lifestealer and Supreme Bonescaller. Passive mobs include Rabbit (weight 10), Wolf (weight 8) and Shima Enaga (weight 3). Wolves in this biome can take the ashen variant. Cold-variant frogs, white rabbits and snow foxes also spawn here.

Tips
- Bring food and warm clothing before exploring. The biome is open and exposed, and its snow and powder snow make the ground uneven.
- Expect the nighttime mobs listed above. Light the ground around any camp and keep a clear line of retreat.
- Powder snow is not solid ground. Check the surface before crossing it.
- Icy Heights is rare, so plan trips around its pine forests and rock outcrops rather than expecting it near every mountain.
