The Skeleton Creeper is a hostile mob added by The Graveyard. It is a creeper variant with a skeletal appearance that explodes like a creeper, but its blast is larger and it blinds the nearest player. It appears in most overworld biomes and in the graveyard structures, so players meet it often while exploring at night. Its main reward is the Creeper Skeleton block, one of the bone decorations, and it occasionally drops corruption and bone.

Spawning

Skeleton Creepers spawn naturally in biomes tagged for them, which covers 192 overworld biomes, including forests, taigas, deserts, savannas, oceans, beaches and cave biomes such as Lush Caves and Frosted Caves. Natural spawns use a weight of 20 and come in groups of 1 to 4. Because the spawn data comes from the mod's biome modifier and not its config file, changing the config's spawn weight has no effect.

They also appear in the monster spawn lists of the graveyard structures: small, medium and large graveyards and ruins. In each of these structures the Skeleton Creeper has a spawn weight of 35 and a count of exactly one per spawn, alongside Revenant and Ghoul. It is not part of the nightly horde, which only sends ghouls, revenants or illagers.

Fear Nightfall weights horror structures and biomes heavily. Graveyard structures are placed about 30% closer together than in the original mod and receive 6× weight where they share a structure set with other mods' structures. Forests, taigas and swamps therefore have the highest chance of Skeleton Creepers near graveyards.

Behavior

The Skeleton Creeper extends the vanilla creeper class and keeps the vanilla creeper AI. It swells and approaches players in the same way, and it moves at a movement speed of 0.29, which is faster than a vanilla creeper. It has 20 health (10 hearts). Its size is 0.6 × 1.7 blocks.

Its explosion is custom. When it detonates:

• The blast has a radius of 3.5 blocks. If the creeper is charged by lightning, the radius doubles to 7 blocks.
• The explosion does not break blocks. It only damages entities within the radius.
• The nearest player within 8 blocks at the moment of detonation receives Blindness for 125 ticks (about 6 seconds).
• If the creeper has any active status effects, it leaves a lingering area-of-effect cloud with a radius of 2.5 blocks that applies those effects.
• After exploding, the creeper is removed. It does not produce death drops when it detonates.

The Skeleton Creeper makes a faint ash-particle ambience on the client side. Its eyes are drawn with a separate overlay layer.

Drops

Killing a Skeleton Creeper before it detonates gives the following drops:

• Bone: 0 to 2, increased by the Fortune enchantment.
• Corruption: 0 or 1, increased by the Fortune enchantment.
• Music disc: if the creeper is killed by a skeleton-type mob, such as a skeleton, stray, wither skeleton or bogged skeleton, it drops a music disc from the creeper disc pool.
• Creeper Skeleton: if the creeper dies to the blast of an ignited (primed) creeper, there is a 50% chance that it drops one Creeper Skeleton.

The Creeper Skeleton can also be found in the urns in crypts, where it has a 4.3% chance per chest.

The Creeper Skeleton is a bone decoration block. It has no hardness and no blast resistance, so it breaks instantly with any tool. It can be placed facing north, south, east or west and can be waterlogged. It is made by carving a bone block in an Ossuary (ossuary carving recipe).

Tips

• The blast does not break blocks, so a Skeleton Creeper is safe to fight in a base. It still damages players and other entities in its 3.5-block radius, so keep at least 4 blocks of distance when it is primed.
• Kill it at range with arrows or another projectile before it reaches the fuse. Killing it before it detonates is the only way to get its bone, corruption and music disc drops.
• Expect Blindness after a nearby explosion. Retreat or fight other mobs from cover until the effect ends.
• If you want the Creeper Skeleton, let a primed creeper blow it up nearby. Each death to an ignited creeper gives a 50% chance of the block.
