Ossuary is a bone-themed block added by The Graveyard. It is a carving station: a player places a bone block into its menu and carves one bone decoration from it. The block is also an ambient prop that opens its lid when a player approaches and gives off ash particles. It stores no items.

Obtaining

The ossuary has no working crafting recipe. Its recipe file is a shaped recipe of three bones on the top row, corruption across the middle row and dark iron ingots in the bottom corners, but its result is a Black Urn rather than an ossuary. Crafting therefore does not produce the block.

The ossuary is placed by two structure pieces. One is a piece of the small grave structure, and the other is a piece of the small desert grave structure (see Graveyards). No chest loot table, mob drop or villager trade includes the block. Breaking an ossuary drops the block itself, and the drop survives explosions. The block is listed in the mod's creative tab.

Usage

Block properties

  • Hardness 3.5 and blast resistance 3.5.
  • Requires a correct tool to drop.
  • Placed facing away from the player, so the front faces the player. It can be rotated and mirrored like other horizontal blocks.
  • Mobs cannot path through the block.

Lid and sounds

The block checks for players within 4 blocks. When a player comes into range, the lid's open state is set and the lid animates open; when no player is within range the lid closes again. The lid-open sound plays once for each opening, to a player within 4 blocks. The block also has a 1-in-100 chance per tick to play a soul escape sound, and it emits ash particles while idle. These effects are cosmetic and do not affect gameplay.

Carving menu

Right-clicking the ossuary opens a carving menu with an input slot, an output slot and a list of recipes. The input accepts a bone block. Each of the 21 carving recipes takes one bone block and produces one bone decoration, such as a skull on a pike, bone remains, a skull pile, a rib cage with a skull, a torso pile, or a lying, leaning, hanged or creeper skeleton. Skeleton and wither skeleton variants are both included. The full list of decorations is on the Bone Decorations page.

Selecting a recipe fills the output slot. Taking the result removes one bone block from the input, so each carved decoration costs one bone block.

Pack context

In Fear Nightfall, the small grave structures are horror structures. The pack places them about 30% closer together than the mod's defaults, and where they share a structure set with other structures they have 6 times the weight. The closer spacing means more of these structures, and so more ossuaries, appear than in the unmodified mod. For horde activity that affects these areas, see Graveyard Hordes.
