The Giant Mushroom Grave and Memorial Trees are two horror surface structures added by The Graveyard. The giant mushroom is a large stem-and-cap formation built from mushroom blocks and decorated with skulls, skeleton blocks and a fire brazier. The memorial tree is a birch tree surrounded by flowers and cobwebs, with black candles, a wither skeleton skull and a chest at its base. Both are generated on the Overworld surface and are counted as horror structures in Fear Nightfall.

Neither structure places mobs. The main reasons to visit them are their loot, which comes from urns and chests, and the advancement Corrupting the Paradise, which is earned by entering a giant mushroom.

Generation

Both structures use the surface_structures generation step and are placed with random spreading. Each is the only structure in its own structure set.

  • Giant mushroom: spacing 14 chunks, separation 12 chunks.
  • Memorial tree: spacing 9 chunks, separation 8 chunks.

These are the in-game values, already scaled by the pack's Sparse Structures setting. In a 26 km² test sample, no giant mushrooms were found, and 8 memorial trees were found.

The giant mushroom can generate in eight biomes: Blackwood Taiga, Fungal Jungle, Mirage Isles, Mushroom Fields, Glowing Grotto, Fungal Caves, Fungal Fen and Bioshroom Caves. The memorial tree can generate in eight biomes, mostly birch forests: Birch Forest, Old Growth Birch Forest, Silver Birch Forest and Birch Taiga. It can also generate in Mystic Grove, Autumnal Maple Forest, Rocky Shrubland and Lavender Valley. The full biome lists are in the structure table below.

Each structure has a terrain check with a size of 10 that rejects a site if the ground height varies by more than 3 blocks. The giant mushroom uses the beard_thin terrain adaptation, and the memorial tree uses beard_box.

Each structure can be turned off in the Graveyard common config. The options giantMushroom.generate and memorialTree.generate both default to true.

Fear Nightfall places horror structures about 30% closer together than the default spacing. Because neither structure shares its set with other structures, the pack's 6× weighting for horror sets does not change their placement.

Layout

Giant mushroom

The giant mushroom is built from a stem piece and a cap piece. The start pool picks a brown stem or a red stem with equal weight. Each stem connects only to the cap of its own colour. Both stems have mycelium at their base.

  • Brown cap: brown mushroom blocks and mushroom stem blocks, with one small brown urn.
  • Red cap: red mushroom blocks, crimson hyphae and shroomlight blocks, with one small red urn.

Each urn holds loot from the Graveyard medium loot table (see Loot below).

The brown stem has no decoration. The red stem holds a lit fire brazier, skull piles, skulls with rib cages, lying and leaning skeleton blocks and a plain skull. These are decorative blocks, not entities.

Memorial tree

The memorial tree is a single template with a birch trunk and birch leaves. It stands on grass blocks and rooted dirt. Around its base are grass, tall grass, large ferns, peonies, lilacs, pink and white tulips, and two cobblestone walls. The template also contains two lit black candles, three cobwebs and a wither skeleton skull. One chest is placed at the base of the trunk. The chest uses the medium loot table.

Inhabitants

Neither structure places mobs. The skeleton and skull blocks on the giant mushroom and the memorial tree are decorative blocks, not entities.

Loot

The giant mushroom's urns and the memorial tree's chest all use the Graveyard medium loot table. The table gives the highest chances to Cobweb (100%), Gunpowder (62%), Rotten Flesh (58%) and Bone (56%). The rarer entries that matter most to players are Golden Apple (29%), Block of Gold (27%), Enchanted Book (25%) and Iron Boots (16%). The generated tables below show every entry.

In Fear Nightfall, Lootr cannot make Graveyard urns per-player. Each urn is therefore shared between all players, and the first player to open one takes what is in it. See Urns and Vases for the urn blocks.

Tips

  • To earn the Corrupting the Paradise advancement, enter a giant mushroom. The advancement is triggered by entering the structure, and it sits under the Graveyard root in the advancement tree.
  • Giant mushrooms are most likely in fungal and cave biomes. If you are searching for one, check Mushroom Fields first, then the fungal caves. In a 26 km² sample, none were found, so expect to search a wide area.
  • Memorial trees are found in birch forests. Look for the black candles, which are lit, and the wither skeleton skull.
  • Each giant mushroom has one urn, and that urn is shared. If another player has already opened it, nothing is left for you.
