The Reaper is a hostile flying mob added by The Graveyard. It has 20 health (10 hearts), hovers without gravity, and attacks by lunging at players from a short distance. Reapers spawn in groups of two or three in eight dark biomes, most of them horror biomes that Fear Nightfall weights heavily, so they are a common threat in forests and caves. Killing one gives 5 experience.
A Reaper is not a ground enemy that walks along paths. It drifts through the air, ignores terrain collision, and is harmed only by sunlight and its own attacks. It is also not part of the Graveyard Hordes or Horde Nights patrols, which use ghouls, revenants and illagers instead. Reapers therefore show up only as natural spawns, and the player meets them while exploring the spooky biomes rather than at a set time.
Spawning
Reapers are natural hostile spawns. They spawn in eight biomes with a spawn weight of 10 each, in groups of 2 to 3. The biomes are Infested Caves, Ominous Woods, Deep Dark, Dark Forest, Blackwood Taiga, Spider Nest, Ashen Woodland and Frostfire Caves. Infested Caves, Frostfire Caves and Deep Dark are cave biomes, so Reapers appear underground as well as on the surface. They spawn in low light like other hostile mobs, which makes them more common at night and in caves than in open daylight.
Fear Nightfall gives the horror biomes 6 times their normal weight. Ominous Woods, Dark Forest, Spider Nest, Blackwood Taiga, Ashen Woodland, Infested Caves, Frostfire Caves and Deep Dark are all in that group, so these biomes take up a much larger share of the world than in the unmodified pack, and Reapers are correspondingly more frequent. See Horror and Spooky Content for the full biome and structure changes.
No structure or summon produces Reapers. The spawn table is shown below.
| Biome | Mod | Weight | Group | Category | Biome share |

| Infested Caves | Terralith | 10 | 2–3 | monster | 0.04% |

| Deep Dark | Minecraft | 10 | 2–3 | monster | 2.36% |
| Dark Forest | Minecraft | 10 | 2–3 | monster | 1.34% |
| Blackwood Taiga | Regions Unexplored | 10 | 2–3 | monster | 0.94% |
| Spider Nest | Biomes O' Plenty | 10 | 2–3 | monster | 0.00% |

Behavior
The Reaper's movement is controlled by a custom flight controller rather than pathfinding. It has no gravity and its movement is not stopped by block collisions, so it can drift through walls and over cliffs. While idle, it randomly picks an empty air position within about 7 blocks horizontally and 5 blocks vertically, and drifts toward it. It turns to face the player when a player is within 3 blocks, and looks at nearby mobs within 8 blocks.
Targeting. A Reaper targets the nearest player it can see. It also retaliates against any player or mob that damages it. A goal that copies a target from an owner mob exists in the code, but no owner is ever assigned to a Reaper, so that goal never activates.
Charge attack. The Reaper's only attack is the charge. When it has a target more than 2 blocks away and is not already moving toward a point, it has a 1-in-7 chance each tick to start a charge. It plays a charge sound, then flies at full speed toward the target's eye position. While charging, it keeps re-aiming at the eye position until its bounding box touches the target. At that moment it deals its attack damage of 4 (2 hearts) and ends the charge. A charge also ends if the target dies. Since the charge is the only attack, the damage a player takes is 4 per successful lunge, before armor reduction.
Sunlight. A Reaper burns in sunlight. When it is exposed to the sun, it catches fire for 8 seconds, unless it wears a helmet. A helmet takes durability damage instead, and the Reaper does not catch fire while the helmet lasts. The sun behaviour can be turned off in the mod's config (reaper.canBurnInSunlight, default on).
Wither. A Reaper can be affected by the Wither effect (reaper.canBeWithered, default on).
Drops
Reapers drop soul sand on every kill and sometimes Corruption. Soul sand always drops one. Corruption drops zero or one. Fortune can add to both counts. Bones only drop when a player kills the Reaper, and the chance is 2.5 percent at no Looting or Looting I, rising by 1 percent per level above Looting I. Looting III gives a 4.5 percent chance.
Corruption is used by the Nameless Hanged, whose trades are partly priced in Corruption. See the table below for the full drop list.
| Item | Amount | Conditions |
|---|---|---|
Soul Sand | x1.0-1.0 +fortune bonus | |
Corruption | x0.0-1.0 +fortune bonus | |
Bone | killed_by_player, random_chance_with_enchanted_bonus |
Tips
- Expect Reapers in the cave and forest biomes listed above. A Reaper that sees you can charge from several blocks away, so keep your path clear of ledges and tight corridors where you cannot dodge.
- A helmet stops a Reaper from catching fire in sunlight, so a Reaper in open daylight burns unless it is wearing one. Leave a Reaper in full sun if you want it gone without a fight.
- Fight Reapers in the open where you can see them coming, since their charge is their only attack. Each successful lunge deals 4 damage, so keep your health up when a group of 2 to 3 is nearby.
- To collect bones, kill Reapers yourself and use Looting. A Reaper killed by something other than a player drops no bones.
