The Spider Nest is a cave biome added by Biomes O' Plenty. It generates underground and is filled with cobwebs, spider eggs and hostile mobs. In Fear Nightfall it is weighted 6 times heavier than a normal biome, so it turns up far more often than its share of the cave layer would suggest. The biome has no surface share, so it is found only in cave systems below ground.
Its monster spawn list is one of the widest in the pack's cave layer. It combines spiders with skeletons, creepers, slimes and zombies, and adds a large set of horror mobs from other mods.
Description
The biome is a standard underground cave with stone, deepslate and the usual ore layers. Its air is carved by the vanilla cave, cave_extra_underground and canyon carvers, so it has long tunnels and open chambers.
Its colours are cold and blue. Fog is #c0d8ff, the sky is #7ba4ff and the water is #3f76e4. The ambient cave sound plays roughly every 6000 ticks. The biome's music is the vanilla dripstone caves track, which does not replace music that is already playing.
Cobwebs are the signature feature. The biome places four cobweb-related features:
- Webbing fills open space. Inside it, horizontal movement is multiplied by 0.625 and vertical movement by 0.75 each tick, so the player moves slowly.
- Stringy Cobweb multiplies horizontal movement by 0.75 with no change to vertical movement. It is climbable.
- Hanging Cobwebs and Corner Cobwebs hang from ceilings and sit in the corners of rooms.
See Spider Webs and Spider Eggs for the items themselves.
Spider eggs are placed with 35 placement attempts per chunk, on solid ground at any height up to y = 256. Each egg releases a cave spider when it is hit by a projectile, when something lands on it, when it is broken, or when an explosion destroys it. Breaking an egg without Silk Touch gives an additional spider drop.
Lava springs and lava lakes appear both above and below ground. Water springs also appear. Glow lichen, tall grass, flower patches and a few plains trees grow here too.
Generation
The Spider Nest has a temperature of 0.5 and a downfall of 0.5, and it has precipitation. In Fear Nightfall it makes up about 0.91% of the cave layer at y = -30. Its surface share is 0.00%.
The pack's changelog weights the Spider Nest at 6 times normal, and lists it among the cave biomes that spread into neighbouring cave areas, alongside Infested Caves and Frostfire Caves. Across the pack, horror caves rise from 17–22% of the cave layer in vanilla Biomes O' Plenty to about 30%.
Serene Seasons blacklists the biome, so seasonal rules from that mod do not apply to it.
Features
The unique features are the cobweb and spider egg features described above. The biome also receives the standard vanilla ore set, plus ore features from other mods. These include the diamond and black argillite features from Born in Chaos, Mithril ore from Iron's Spellbooks and deepslate sulfur ore from Butchery, which yields Sulfur. Monster room and amethyst geode features from vanilla can also appear in the biome.
Mobs and structures
The monster list has spiders, skeletons, creepers and slimes at the top of the weights, followed by zombies and cave spiders. The horror mobs from Born in Chaos, Graveyard and Iron's Spellbooks are common here as well, including dread hounds, reapers and necromancers. The water spawn list includes glow squid and several fish species. The ambient list includes coal golems and bats.
The structures that generate here are listed in the generated table below. In Fear Nightfall, the horror structures from Graveyard, Born in Chaos and the other horror sets are placed about 30% closer together than in vanilla, and in mixed sets they get 6 times weight.

Tips
Spider eggs are the most common cause of surprise fights in this biome. Each one releases a cave spider, so stepping onto or mining near an egg can start a fight you did not plan for. Breaking an egg with Silk Touch avoids the extra drop, but the egg still releases its spider.
Webbing slows movement sharply, and a fight inside it is hard to leave. Clear webbing before fighting if you can, and keep an escape route that does not pass through it.
Lava springs and lava lakes sit in the same caves as the spiders. Check your footing before you fight in the open.
