The Crag is a mountain biome added by Biomes O' Plenty. It is a stone-heavy biome with dense ore placements and a monster population led by the vanilla hostile mobs, with horror mobs from Born in Chaos and the Graveyard mod mixed in. In Fear Nightfall it is one of the rarest biomes in the pack.

Description

The Crag is a stone biome. Its surface is built from the vanilla stone family (stone, andesite, diorite, granite, tuff, gravel and dirt), and the Biomes O' Plenty features cover that base with patches of cobblestone and gravel. Moss patches are scattered across the exposed stone: a moss patch places mossy cobblestone, moss blocks, moss carpet and short grass on stone, gravel, andesite, diorite, granite and dirt, within a radius of 2 to 7 blocks. Around three patches are attempted per chunk. Grass and tall grass patches are also placed, along with glow lichen.

The water is blue (#3F76E4) and the sky is a pale blue (#7AA5FF). Fog is pale blue (#C0D8FF), but underwater fog is near-black blue (#050533), so the water is dark once a player is submerged. Ambient sound is the vanilla cave track, and the biome music is the Jagged Peaks track, which plays with a 10 to 20 minute delay between tracks.

The biome has precipitation of rain, with temperature and downfall both set to 0.6.

Generation

The Crag is classed as a mountain biome in the vanilla and common biome tags, so features and structures that check for mountains treat it as one. It is also in the vanilla stronghold-biased tag, which Biomes O' Plenty applies to all of its biomes, so strongholds are more likely to be placed near it.

The biome is rare in Fear Nightfall. It makes up 0.16% of land surface and 0.02% of the cave layer at y=-30. It is not one of the biomes given 6× weight in the pack's biome table, which concentrates horror content in forests, swamps and a few cave and deep-dark biomes.

Structures can generate in the Crag, and there are 178 of them that the biome allows. They come from a range of mods, including the Graveyard and Born in Chaos horror sets, Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks, Nova Structures and Structory: Towers. The full list is in the table under the mobs and structures heading below.

Features

The Crag has a dense ore set. Coal, iron, copper, gold, redstone, lapis, emerald and andesite, diorite, granite and tuff are all placed, and diamond has four placements: standard, medium, large and buried. Born in Chaos adds infected diamond and infected deepslate diamond ore features, and Iron's Spells adds a mithril ore placement. Monster rooms, lava lakes (underground and surface), lava springs, amethyst geodes and underwater magma also generate here.

Other vegetation and terrain features include wild flax, wild carrots and wild onions (from the Farmer's Delight patches), cave urns, cliff features from Stony Cliffs, and the infested ore placement.

Cobblestone and gravel "splatter" is placed as a separate feature. It is attempted 64 times per chunk, in a radius of 2 to 7 blocks, and replaces stone, gravel, andesite, diorite, granite and dirt within 6 blocks above and below the placement height. About two in five placements are cobblestone, two in five are gravel and one in five is andesite. This is why the Crag's surface looks broken and mixed rather than flat stone.

Mobs and structures

The spawn table is dominated by the vanilla hostile mobs: spiders, skeletons, creepers and slimes have a weight of 100 each, and zombies have 95. Slime golems (25) and skeleton creepers (20) follow, and the horror mobs come next: necromancers (18), nightmares (7), dread hounds (7) and spirits of chaos (4). The rarest entries, each with weight 1, are krampus, mutant enderman, lifestealer and supreme bonescaller. The biome also has goats (creature, weight 10), bats (ambient, 8 per group), glow squid (underground water, 10), and fish of many kinds in water.

Structures are shown in the table below, which is generated from the game data.

Tips

Treat the Crag as a night biome. Its monster weights are high, and the horror mobs it spawns, including nightmares, dread hounds and necromancers, are the main threat after dark.

Lava is common here. Underground lava lakes, surface lava lakes and lava springs all occur, so check the ground before you cross an unlit area. Infested stone ore can hide monsters, so mine with caution in the ore placements.

The ore density makes the Crag a good place to mine diamond, emerald and lapis.
