Biomes O' Plenty Trees (other) are the saplings, leaves and potted saplings of three tree families added by Biomes O' Plenty that have no wood set: Flowering Oak, Snowblossom and Rainbow Birch. Unlike the mod's wood sets, which provide logs, planks and full sets of building blocks, these families provide only the sapling that grows each tree and the leaves that the tree drops. Each tree is generated by the mod's own tree features in a small number of biomes, so a player who wants a supply of a given sapling usually finds it by exploring those biomes, by breaking leaves, or by trading with a Wandering Trader.

The page covers nine items: a sapling and a leaf block for each family, and a potted version of each sapling. The full list with stats is in the table below.

Obtaining

Saplings come from three sources. Breaking a leaf block drops a sapling by chance, and the leaf block itself drops only with shears or Silk Touch. Saplings also come from the Wandering Trader, and the trees they grow into are generated in the biomes listed under Usage below. Leaf blocks are not rare: they are a source of saplings and of decorative leaves, and they do not drop anything else.

Leaf blocks drop their sapling with a chance that depends on the Fortune level of the tool:

Fortune level Sapling drop chance
None 5%
I 6.25%
II 8.33%
III 10%

Potted saplings are not generated naturally. A potted sapling is made by placing a flower pot and a sapling in the same way as vanilla potted plants.

Trading

The Wandering Trader sells these saplings for emeralds. Flowering Oak and Snowblossom saplings appear in its generic listings, and the Rainbow Birch sapling appears in its rare listings. The mod adds these trades only while the config option general.wandering_trader_trades is enabled, which is the default. Villagers do not sell any of these items.

Usage

Each sapling grows into a tree. The leaf blocks have the standard leaf behaviour: they decay when no log is nearby, and they can be harvested with Shears to collect the leaf block itself.

Flowering Oak

The Flowering Oak Sapling grows into the Flowering Oak, a tree with flowering leaves. It is generated in the Orchard, Tropics, Mediterranean Forest and the Lavender Field biome. The Mediterranean Forest uses the bush form of the tree, and the Lavender Field uses a variant with bees.

The sapling uses the vanilla soil rules; it has no special planting condition.

Snowblossom

The Snowblossom Sapling grows into the Snowblossom tree. It is found in the Snowblossom Grove and in Jacaranda Glade (as a small twiglet tree). The Snowblossom Grove is a passive biome, with sheep, rabbits and foxes.

Snowblossom leaves emit snowblossom particles. On average, about one tick in ten a leaf block spawns a particle below itself, when the block below does not have a full top face, which makes the leaves look as if they are dropping petals onto the ground.

Rainbow Birch

The Rainbow Birch Sapling grows into the Rainbow Birch, a tree with multi-coloured leaves. It is generated in Auroral Garden, in both its small and large forms. The sapling and its potted form emit light at level 5, and the leaf block emits light at level 8.

Growing saplings

Each sapling has two stages. Applying Bone Meal to a sapling advances it to its second stage, and each application has a 45% chance to succeed. A second successful application at the second stage grows the tree. Like vanilla saplings, the sapling also advances on random ticks when it has enough light.

Other uses

  • All nine items are compostable with a 30% chance, and all three saplings can be burned as fuel.
  • The leaf blocks are flammable, with a fire encouragement of 30 and a flammability of 60, which is higher than the values for vanilla leaves.
  • Leaves and saplings are tagged for other mods. The Critters and Companions mod treats the leaf blocks as food for stick bugs, leaf insects and snails. Supplementaries lets the saplings and leaves go in flower boxes. Hexerei treats them as herbs. Serene Seasons, when installed, treats the saplings as crops for the seasons in which they grow.
  • In Fear Nightfall, the mod's biomes are calibrated to about 25% of overworld land, so these trees are common across the map.
