The Mediterranean Forest is a warm, rainy overworld biome added by Biomes O' Plenty. Its climate has a temperature of 0.8 and a downfall of 0.275, and it has rain rather than snow. The biome is dominated by cypress trees, oaks and bushes. In Fear Nightfall it is a common source of hostile mobs, including several horror mobs added by other mods, and it is one of the biomes where Towns and Towers adds Mediterranean-specific villages and pillager outposts.
Description
The biome has no custom terrain shape or surface blocks of its own. Its appearance comes from its colours and vegetation. The water colour is #45adf2, the fog colour is #c0d8ff, and the sky colour is #78a7ff. Players hear the vanilla cave ambient sound at a 6000-tick (five-minute) delay, which is the biome's mood sound.
Trees are the defining feature. The biome mixes cypress trees, oak variants and oak bushes, and cypress has the highest weight among the tree choices. See Cypress Wood for the cypress tree and its wood set. Flowers, grass, bushes and pumpkin patches fill the ground between the trees.
Generation
The Mediterranean Forest generates in the overworld. Its share of the land surface is 0.61%, and its share of the cave layer at y=-30 is 0.18%. These are the in-game shares in Fear Nightfall, as reported by the infobox.
The biome is tagged as a forest and as an overworld biome, so features that target forests can generate here. Strongholds are biased toward it, as they are toward all Biomes O' Plenty biomes.
In Fear Nightfall, the pack's custom biome table gives Biomes O' Plenty about a quarter of all land, and the Mediterranean Forest shares that space by weight with the other biomes in its climate cell. The biome is not in the pack's list of biomes weighted 6x for the horror theme, and its warm climate is not one of the cool, humid forests, taigas and swamps where the pack concentrates horror content. Its mob table still includes several horror mobs, as described below.
Features
The biome adds the following features during generation:
- Trees: the
trees_mediterranean_forestfeature makes two tree placement attempts per chunk in most chunks, and three in about one chunk in ten. Each attempt picks from a weighted selector of sparse oak (weight 0.1), dark oak (0.05), cypress (0.6) and flowering oak bush (0.1), with a plain oak bush as the fallback. Trees are placed only where there is no surface water. - Flowers and plants: flower, bush, grass and peony patches. Farmers Delight adds patches of wild carrots and wild onions. Supplementaries adds wild flax and cave urns.
- Pumpkin patches: the vanilla pumpkin patch feature.
- Silk cocoons: Critters and Companions adds silk cocoons, including hanging cocoons.
- Calcite: a calcite disk placed in the underground ore step.
- Ores: the full vanilla overworld ore set, including the buried and large diamond variants and the andesite, diorite, granite and tuff clusters. Born in Chaos adds infected diamond ore, infected deepslate diamond ore and black argillite. Butchery adds deepslate sulfur ore, and Iron's Spellbooks adds mithril ore.
- Cliffs: a cliff feature from Stonycliffs.
Vanilla soft disks (clay, gravel and sand patches) are added by default.
Mobs and structures
Hostile mobs are the main concern here. The monster table has its highest weights for Spider, Skeleton, Creeper and Slime (each weight 100), with Zombie at 95. Horror mobs with notable weights include the Necromancer (18), the Dread Hound (7), the Mutant Creeper (5), the Bonescaller (5), the Mutant Zombie (4) and the Spirit of Chaos (4). The rarest threats include the Nightmare Stalker (2) and Sir Pumpkinhead (2). The tables below list every spawn in each category.
The most common creature is the Crow (weight 20). The other creature spawns are sheep, pigs, chickens, cows, Honey Golems and ferrets. Slime Golems are in the monster table with weight 25. The water spawns include a range of fish, and Glow Squid spawn in underground water.
The structures that can generate here include Towns and Towers Villages and Pillager Outposts in their Mediterranean variants, along with many ruins, camps, towers and houses from other mods. The structure table lists all of them.

Tips
- Expect hostile mobs at night. The monster table is dominated by Spiders, Skeletons, Creepers and Slimes, and it also includes the horror mobs listed above. Carry a ranged weapon or a shield before crossing the open ground between trees.
- Cypress is the most common tree here, so the Cypress Wood set is the wood to gather from this biome.
