The Lush Desert is a hot, dry overworld biome. Two biomes share this name in Fear Nightfall: one added by Biomes O' Plenty (biomesoplenty:lush_desert) and one added by Terralith (terralith:lush_desert). Both are desert-climate biomes with sand, sandstone and sparse vegetation, and both are dangerous at night because they carry a full set of hostile mobs. A player who travels into either one will find dry, open ground, scattered ruins and wells, and a mixed hostile spawn list that includes several of the pack's horror mobs.

The two versions are different in character. The Biomes O' Plenty version is a warm, humid-leaning desert with rain, palm and acacia trees and a freshwater hot spring. The Terralith version is a dry desert with no precipitation, cacti and dead-bush-like scrub, and a warmer, more open look. Neither is horror-weighted in Fear Nightfall, so the horror content in these biomes comes from the mobs and structures they share with the rest of the pack, not from an increased chance of the biome itself.

Description

Biomes O' Plenty variant

The Biomes O' Plenty Lush Desert has pale yellow-green grass and yellow-green foliage. Its ground is sand, with patches of desert grass and sparse dune grass spread across it. Wildflowers are placed on about one in four placement attempts. The biome has more water than a typical desert: a hot-spring lake feature and extra spring water blocks produce pools at the surface, and the water is blue.

Trees are the most visible feature of this variant. Most trees are acacia-type trees, including bushy acacia trees and thin sparse acacias, with palm trees as a rarer choice. The sky and fog are pale blue, so the biome looks bright and open during the day and hostile at night.

Terralith variant

The Terralith Lush Desert is a hotter, drier desert. Its grass is golden-tan, its foliage brown, and its water a pale aqua. The ground is sand over sandstone, with patches of grass that grow on sand, clusters of cacti and dead bushes. The biome has no precipitation, so the sky stays clear and the air looks dry and bright. The biome has a cave mood sound and a desert music track, so a player entering it hears the desert theme and the ambient cave sound at intervals.

Generation

The Biomes O' Plenty Lush Desert is a warm biome with a temperature of 0.9 and a downfall of 0.5. It takes up about 0.40% of the land surface in Fear Nightfall, and it appears underground at a share of about 0.11% at Y level -30. The pack's biome table sets the total land share of each mod (see the Biomes page), so this biome competes with the rest of Biomes O' Plenty for space in each climate cell. It is not horror-weighted.

The Terralith Lush Desert is a very hot, dry biome with a temperature of 2 and a downfall of 0. It takes up about 0.08% of the land surface, which makes it rare. It is also not horror-weighted.

Both variants share desert and hot-biome tags with the wider desert family, so they appear in the same structure and mob sets as the other deserts. Fear Nightfall's changes keep deserts mostly normal in terms of horror content, but the horror structures that are placed in the pack (see below) are placed closer together everywhere they generate.

Features

Biomes O' Plenty variant

  • Trees: the biome places acacia-type trees with a weighted choice. Most trees are acacia bushes or sparse acacias, with palm trees making up about one tenth of the choices. Palm trees produce Palm Wood.
  • Plants and flowers: wildflowers, patches of desert grass and sparse dune grass. Wild carrots, onions and tomatoes from Farmer's Delight also spawn here.
  • Cacti and sugar cane: decorated cactus patches and sugar cane grow on the sand near water.
  • Water: a hot-spring lake feature and extra spring water blocks.
  • Ores: the full set of overworld ores, including coal, iron, gold, redstone, lapis, diamond and copper, plus the Born in Chaos infected diamond and black argillite features and the Iron's Spellbooks mithril ore.
  • Surface features: cave urns, wild flax and road signs from Supplementaries, and a sulfur ore in deepslate from Butchery.

Terralith variant

  • Sand and sandstone: the surface is sand over sandstone, with grass that grows on the sand and cacti in clusters.
  • Ores: the same overworld ore set as the Biomes O' Plenty variant, plus the Born in Chaos infected diamond and black argillite features and the Butchery sulfur ore.
  • Water: underwater magma and sand, clay and gravel disks in lakes and rivers, and standing spring water.
  • Surface features: wild flax, cave urns, road signs and cliff features from Stony Cliffs.

Both variants add Yung's desert set: dry and wet wells, a wishing well, desert obelisks (including a creeper-themed and a ruined variant), a giant torch, a chill zone and desert ruins. These are the easiest way to find the biome's loot, because the wells and obelisks sit on the surface and stand out against the sand.

Mobs and structures

Both variants have the same overall hostile spawn set. Spiders, skeletons, creepers and slimes carry the highest weights, and the Born in Chaos horror mobs appear in the same list. Among the horror mobs, the Dread Hound, Nightmare and Bloody Gadfly appear with a low weight in both variants, and the Necromancer appears with a higher weight. Husks are common in both, which is typical for a hot desert.

The Biomes O' Plenty variant has more zombies, with a zombie spawn weight far above the Terralith variant, and it also spawns armadillos and rabbits on land. Its water mobs include the Corpse Fish and glow squids, and cave fish that spawn in the underwater caves. The Terralith variant has camels and rabbits on land and a different set of cave fish, including synodontis and boulti.

The structures that can generate here are numerous, with 170 candidates for the Biomes O' Plenty variant and 168 for the Terralith variant. Most are desert and village structures from the mods the pack includes, such as desert temples, desert houses, fortified desert villages, desert outposts, pillager outposts, and small desert ruins and shrines. Several illager structures and catacombs can also generate, and the Pillager Outposts and Villages sets are shared with the rest of the pack.

The full list of mobs and structures for each biome is given in the tables below.

Tips

  • Carry a light source and a sword or ranged weapon into either variant at night. The hostile spawn list is broad, and the open sand gives mobs a long line of sight.
  • The Biomes O' Plenty variant is the better place to find wood and water. Its palm trees give Palm Wood, and its hot-spring lakes add surface water in an otherwise dry area.
  • The Terralith variant is the better place to find cacti and sandstone for building.
  • Check the wells and obelisks for loot early. They sit on the surface and are easy to spot against the sand.
  • Ore is plentiful in both variants, so the biome is a good place to look for diamonds, but the Born in Chaos ore features are part of the same horror-themed pack, so expect hostile mobs near mining areas at night.
