Biomes O' Plenty is a worldgen content mod that adds 69 biomes across the Overworld, Nether and End, along with about 430 block registrations, two custom fluids and a set of hazardous and status-giving plants. Players meet its biomes as new forests, deserts, bogs, fungal jungles and caves across the pack's land. A few of its blocks injure or set fire to the player, and several of its biomes spawn hostile mobs in numbers, so it matters at night as much as it matters for scenery.
Overview
Biomes O' Plenty is primarily a biome and decoration mod. It adds no mobs, no structures, no dimensions, no tools, no armour, no food and no progression. Its biomes spawn only vanilla mobs, so the mod changes what the player sees and walks through rather than what they fight. Its gameplay effects come from a small set of hazard blocks, flowers that grant status effects, a few block-state behaviours, extra Wandering Trader trades and one music disc.
In Fear Nightfall the mod is one of several biome sources. The pack does not use the mod's own region weights to decide how much land it gets. A custom biome table shares each climate cell between the eligible biomes of vanilla, Terralith, Regions Unexplored and this mod. Biomes O' Plenty is calibrated to about a quarter of the land (see In Fear Nightfall below).
Content
Overworld biomes
The mod adds 61 Overworld biomes, including two cave biomes. They group roughly by terrain:
- Forests and taigas: Aspen Glade, Coniferous Forest, Fir Clearing, Maple Woods, Mediterranean Forest, Seasonal Forest, Woodland, Dead Forest, Jacaranda Glade, Snowblossom Grove, Pumpkin Patch. Redwood Forest, Rocky Rainforest and the snowy forest variants are also part of the forest group.
- Dark and hostile biomes: Ominous Woods, Mystic Grove, Origin Valley, Overgrown Greens, Wasteland. Their spawn lists are covered under Mobs below.
- Plains, meadows and grasslands: Field, Grassland, Highland, Orchard, Pasture, Prairie, Shrubland, Rocky Shrubland, Scrubland, Tundra.
- Deserts and savannas: Cold Desert, Dryland, Lush Desert, Lush Savanna.
- Wet and jungle biomes: Bayou, Floodplain, Fungal Jungle, Marsh, Muskeg, Rainforest, Tropics, Wetland, Hot Springs.
- Mountains and cliffs: Crag, Jade Cliffs, Moor.
- Coasts: Dune Beach, Gravel Beach.
Lavender Field, Forested Field, Volcanic Plains and Volcano are further Overworld biomes in the set.
Cave biomes
Two cave biomes sit underground. Glowing Grotto is a cave biome, and Spider Nest spawns cave spiders.
Nether biomes
Five Nether biomes take up much of the vanilla Nether space: Crystalline Chasm, Erupting Inferno, Undergrowth, Visceral Heap and Withered Abyss. Each has its own music track.
End biomes
Three End highlands biomes are added: End Wilds, End Reef and End Corruption.
Mobs
The mod adds no mobs. Its biomes assign vanilla mobs, each biome with its own mix. The Origin Valley biome spawns spiders, zombies, skeletons, creepers and slimes. Ominous Woods spawns illusioners, spiders, endermen, witches, slimes and wolves. The Erupting Inferno and Undergrowth Nether biomes spawn ghasts, magma cubes and hoglins, and Visceral Heap spawns zombified piglins alongside ghasts. Some biomes spawn passive mobs instead, such as goats in the mountain biomes and a panda in Jade Cliffs.
Blocks and plants
The mod registers about 430 blocks. The main families are:
- Wood sets: thirteen full sets, each with logs, planks, stairs, slabs, doors, signs and saplings: Dead Wood, Empyreal Wood, Fir Wood, Hellbark Wood, Jacaranda Wood, Magic Wood, Mahogany Wood, Maple Wood, Palm Wood, Pine Wood, Redwood, Umbran Wood and Willow Wood. The tree families without a full set are covered on Biomes O' Plenty Trees (other). The mod adds 26 boats in total, a boat and a chest boat for each wood set.
- Flowers and plants: the flowers are covered on Biomes O' Plenty Flowers and the grasses, reeds and lily pads on Biomes O' Plenty Plants.
- Sand and sandstone: white, orange and black sand, mossy black sand and matching sandstone. See Colored Sand and Sandstone.
- Brimstone and rose quartz: Brimstone blocks include the Brimstone Fumarole, which hurts entities that step on it. Rose Quartz forms clusters and buds, and its chunk is a trim material.
- Flesh, null and origin blocks: the flesh family is covered on Flesh and Visceral Heap Blocks, the null family on Null and End Blocks and the origin family on Origin Valley Blocks.
- Webbing and glow: Spider Webs and Spider Eggs, Glowworm Silk and Glowing Moss and Toadstools.
- Thermal calcite: Thermal Calcite includes vents that hurt entities that step on them.
Fluids
The mod adds two fluids, each with a bucket: Blood and Liquid Null.
Other items and trades
The creative tab "Biomes O' Plenty" holds the mod's items. The mod also adds about 60 items in total, including the music disc "Wanderer" (see Music Discs) and the rose quartz chunk, a trim material. The Wandering Trader gains a set of trades for saplings, flowers, sand, grasses and some rarer items such as spider eggs and brimstone. See Wandering Trader.
Mechanics
Biome placement
The mod registers three Overworld regions, two Nether regions and an End highlands entry with TerraBlender. Each biome can be turned off in the mod's config, and a disabled biome falls back to a vanilla biome at the same climate point. In the Nether, the mod's regions take the vanilla Soul Sand Valley, Crimson Forest, Warped Forest and Basalt Deltas slots, so most of the vanilla non-wastes Nether space is displaced.
Hazards
Several blocks injure a player who touches them. The pack's Hazardous Blocks and Plants page lists these with the other dangerous blocks in Fear Nightfall.
- Bramble hurts players each tick they stand inside it. Each hit deals 1 damage. It uses a damage type that counts as an environmental panic cause.
- Brimstone Fumarole and Thermal Calcite Vent hurt living entities that are not fire-immune when they step on them. Each uses its own damage type.
- Burning Blossom sets non-fire-immune entities alight while they stand in it, igniting them for one second. Hoglins and piglins are exempt. Its fire damage applies on each tick, and according to the code path it still applies to fire-immune entities.
Movement
- Webbing multiplies horizontal velocity by 0.625 and vertical velocity by 0.75 each tick a player is inside it.
- Stringy Cobweb multiplies horizontal velocity by 0.75 and leaves vertical velocity unchanged.
- Willow Vine, Stringy Cobweb and Flesh Tendons can be climbed.
Flowers and status effects
Each flower applies a vanilla status effect for a short duration, and the effect is listed on Flower Effects and Suspicious Stew. Examples are the Rose (speed), Violet (confusion), Lavender and White Lavender (health boost), Pink Daffodil (invisibility), Pink Hibiscus (regeneration), Glowflower (glowing) and Burning Blossom (fire resistance).
Flesh, eggs and the Anomaly
- Spider Egg plays a sound and spawns a spider when it is broken or landed on.
- Flesh blocks grow Hair, Pus Bubble and Flesh Tendons on neighbouring spaces through random ticks.
- Anomaly blocks are a client-side visual. Each placed anomaly is one of four types, and only the stable type renders as a full block.
Fluids
Blood and Liquid Null both use the NeoForge fluid system, with a density of 3000 and a viscosity of 6000. Blood can be extinguished, and Liquid Null can be converted into a source block.
Changes to vanilla
The mod changes vanilla in several ways that a player will notice:
- Flammability: the mod's wood, leaves, flowers and plants are flammable. Leaves burn more readily than logs and planks, and flowers and grasses burn the most readily.
- Stripping, tilling and flattening: the mod's logs can be stripped with an axe, Origin Grass can be tilled into farmland with a hoe, and it can be flattened into a dirt path with a shovel.
- Composting: the mod's plants can be composted.
- Tags: the mod's wood, leaves, flowers and sands join the vanilla tags for logs, planks, saplings, boats, signs, stairs, slabs and walls. Any mod that checks those tags also sees the mod's blocks. Flesh, sandstones and sands join the vanilla mining tags.
- Spawning and biome tags: the mod's biomes join vanilla biome tags. They take part in stronghold placement, and mineshafts do not generate in Origin Valley. Patrols and zombie sieges do not spawn in Origin Valley or Tropics. Frog, fox, rabbit and snow fox variants also spawn in the mod's biomes.
- Structures: the mod's biomes are added to 20 vanilla structure biome sets, including villages, pillager outposts, woodland mansions and end cities.
- Recipes: 25 recipes that produce vanilla items are added, mostly dyes from the mod's flowers.
- Wandering Trader: the trader gains extra trades. The config can turn them off.
No vanilla loot tables are changed, and no vanilla advancements are modified.
In Fear Nightfall
The pack changes how the mod's biomes are distributed. The mod's own region weights are overridden by a custom biome table. In each climate cell, every biome that its original mod allows there is eligible, and the eligible biomes share the cell by weight. Same-type biomes sit next to each other, so forests border forests. The calibrated land shares are about 31% for Terralith, 28% for Regions Unexplored, 25% for this mod and 15% for vanilla. Before the table, this mod covered over half of the land.
Structures that could only spawn in vanilla biomes, 515 in all, now also spawn in matching modded biomes, which includes this mod's biomes. Only mushroom-island structures stay vanilla-only.
The mod's hostile biomes are the most dangerous places to explore at night. Origin Valley, Ominous Woods and Visceral Heap spawn mostly hostile mobs, and the bramble and fumarole blocks injure anyone who crosses them. See Horror and Spooky Content for the pack's wider horror content.
Advancements
The mod adds a "Biomes O' Plenty" root advancement and a "Wanderer" advancement, which is earned by visiting every Biomes O' Plenty biome.
