The Glowworm Silk and Glowing Moss group is a set of light-emitting blocks and plants added by Biomes O' Plenty. They are the main light sources of the Glowing Grotto biome, an underground biome where glowing moss, glowshrooms and hanging silk cover the cave floors and ceilings. Glowing moss and glowworm silk are the most useful members of the group: moss spreads light across cave floors and walls, and silk is a flammable trim material for armor. The group also includes glowshrooms, glowflowers and lumaloops, which are described in the sections below.

Most of these blocks emit light, so they are a practical way to light up underground areas in a dark, horror-themed world. Glowing moss gives off light level 6, glowshroom blocks light level 10, and glowworm silk light level 2.

Obtaining

Glowing moss blocks and carpets, glowshrooms and glowworm silk are generated naturally in the Glowing Grotto biome. Glowing moss patches are part of the mud vegetation of that biome, and glowworm silk strands hang from the ceilings of its caves. Glowshroom placement uses a weighted floor-plant mix in which glowing moss carpet has weight 25 and glowshroom has weight 6. Glowshrooms also generate as small, medium, huge and giant variants in cave areas.

Glowworm silk is a hanging strand. It attaches to a sturdy block above it or to a glowing moss block, and it can be collected with shears, which give one glowworm silk block. Breaking it without shears drops nothing. Glowing moss blocks have a hardness of 0.1, and the hoe is their effective tool.

Glowing moss and glowworm silk can also be obtained through trading:

Usage

Glowing moss is a light source and a decorative block, and it can be grown with bone meal. Using bone meal on a glowing moss block places a glowing moss patch above the block and another below it, provided there is air in one of those positions. Bone meal always succeeds on glowing moss. Glowing moss blocks and carpets can be composted with a 65% chance.

Glowworm silk hangs from the ceiling in long strands. The strand blocks can be placed over, and they do not block movement, so players can walk through them. Silk is flammable, so it should be kept away from open fire and lava. Glowworm silk is also a trim material for armor trims.

Glowshroom blocks are lit by level 10 and glowflowers by level 9. Glowflowers apply the glowing effect when they are used in suspicious stew, and a glowflower can be crafted into cyan dye.

Lumaloop

The lumaloop is a plant that grows upward from end stone and the Biomes O' Plenty end stone variants. Each random tick, a lumaloop head has a 1% chance to grow, and it stops at age 8. When a new block grows, it has a 40% chance of being lit. A lit lumaloop emits light, and the lumaloop plant body is a separate block that keeps the lit state of the head. Bone meal grows the lumaloop by one block and lights it.

Glowshroom

Glowshroom is a mushroom that emits light. Its generated variants grow on grass, mycelium, stone, deepslate, glowing moss blocks and mud. The glowshroom block, which forms the cap of huge glowshrooms, is lit by level 10 and is breakable with an axe. Glowshrooms can be composted with a 65% chance. Glowshroom is also one of the emerald trades of the Wandering Trader.
