Rocky Shrubland is the name of two overworld biomes in Fear Nightfall. The main version is added by Biomes O' Plenty (biomesoplenty:rocky_shrubland), a mild, rain-fed shrubland of stony ground and oak bushes. The second version is added by Terralith (terralith:rocky_shrubland) and is a snowy, spruce-covered shrubland. Both are uncommon. Both have a long list of hostile spawns, ore-rich ground and horror structures, so they are dangerous at night even though they look open during the day.
The infobox describes the Biomes O' Plenty version. The sections below describe both.
Description
Biomes O' Plenty version
The Biomes O' Plenty version has a temperature of 0.6 and a downfall of 0.05, so it rains rather than snows. Its water colour is #3f76e4, its fog colour is #c0d8ff and its sky colour is #7aa5ff. The main woody plant is the oak bush, a small shrub from Biomes O' Plenty. The biome places six or seven bush attempts per chunk, and bushes do not grow in water. Flower patches, grass patches and glow lichen fill the open ground between them.
Terralith version
The Terralith version has a temperature of 0.14 with the frozen temperature modifier and no downfall. Precipitation is snow. Its grass colour is #937554, its foliage colour is #b99470, its water colour is #3f76a0, its fog colour is #cde6ff and its sky colour is #b1d1ff. The ground is broken up by podzol and terracotta disks. The vegetation is made of spruce: cone-shaped trees, small trees, tiny trees and spruce-leaf bushes, all built from spruce logs and leaves. Cliff grass features are also placed here. The surface uses a rocky noise layer, which gives the uneven stone-and-soil look that the biome is named for.
Generation
Biomes O' Plenty registers its overworld biomes in three TerraBlender regions, with weights of 10, 8 and 2. The source does not give this biome's weight inside those regions, so its frequency is known only from its measured share. In Fear Nightfall the Biomes O' Plenty version covers 0.22% of the land surface. At y = -30 it makes up 0.06% of the underground cave layer. The Terralith version covers 0.01% of the land surface, which makes it the rarer of the two.
Both versions carry the stronghold_biased_to biome tag, so stronghold placement favours them.
The pack does not put Rocky Shrubland on its list of biomes with 6× horror weighting. It spawns at its normal weight. Its structure set does include horror structures, such as Born in Chaos graves and graveyards. The pack places horror structures about 30% closer together than at default spacing, so these structures are more frequent here.
Features
Both versions share the same ore set: vanilla coal, copper, iron, gold, redstone, lapis and diamond, including buried and large diamond variants, together with granite, diorite, andesite, tuff, gravel and dirt. Both also include Born in Chaos's infected diamond ore and black argillite, Butchery's sulfur ore and Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks' mithril ore.
The Biomes O' Plenty version also has underground lava lakes, surface lava lakes, amethyst geodes, monster rooms (dungeon rooms), spring water and spring lava. Its plants are Biomes O' Plenty flowers and grass patches, glow lichen, cave urns and wild flax from Supplementaries, and wild carrots and onions from Farmer's Delight.
The Terralith version adds patches of pumpkins, sugar cane and tall grass, plains flowers and wild potatoes, along with the spruce trees described above.
Mobs and structures
The spawn tables list the full set of hostile and passive mobs for each version. Vanilla spiders, skeletons, creepers, slimes and zombies are the most common hostile spawns in both. The notable mobs are:
- Biomes O' Plenty version: Necromancer (weight 18), Slime Golem (weight 25), Nightmare and Dread Hound (weight 7 each), and Nightmare Stalker (weight 2). Ferrets are among its passive mobs.
- Terralith version: Revenant (weight 25) and Skeleton Creeper (weight 20), along with the same necromancers and slime golems. Shima Enagas, horses and wolves are among its passive mobs.
Both versions have a long structure list. Notable structures in the Biomes O' Plenty version include Born in Chaos's Firewell and Orion grave, and Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks' catacombs and evoker fort. The Terralith version adds Altar (The Graveyard), the Ice Spider Den and the Infernal Pumpkin Patch.

Tips
- Cross this biome in daylight where possible. Its monster list is long and includes many horror mobs.
- The Terralith version is cold, and its precipitation is snow rather than rain. Dress for the weather before a long trip.
- Both versions have the same ore set, so mining is the same in either one.
- Horror structures are placed closer together in Fear Nightfall. Expect several graves and crypts near each other, and check each one before entering.
