Way Signs and Road Signs are decorative signage from Supplementaries. A way sign is a wood-specific sign plate that can be attached to walls, fences and sticks, with one variant for each wood type in the pack. A road sign is a worldgen structure built around signposts, placed across the Overworld. The two share a name because road signs are the main place where players encounter way signs in the world.
Obtaining
Way signs are obtained by crafting. A sign item of a given wood type crafts into 2 way signs of that wood. The recipe grids below show every wood type that has a way sign recipe. Way sign variants added by other mods, such as Biomes O' Plenty, Regions Unexplored, Hexerei and Born in Chaos, use the same pattern for their own wood types.
Crafting
Road signs
Road signs are a structure with these placement rules:
- Dimension: Overworld.
- Height: placed between Y 40 and Y 105.
- Generation step: strongholds, with
beard_thinterrain adaptation, so the structure fits the surrounding ground. - Biomes: the
#supplementaries:has_road_signsbiome tag, which covers 281 biomes including oceans, plains, forests, savannas, deserts, jungles and taigas. - Spacing: about 36 chunks apart on average. In a sample of 26 km², 19 road signs were observed.
- Villages: road signs keep a 10-chunk exclusion zone around villages.
The advancement Road Sign in the Adventure tab is awarded when a player enters one of these structures.
Road signs can be disabled in the Supplementaries configuration (ROAD_SIGN_ENABLED). This is a worldReload setting, so it needs a world reload to take effect.
Usage
Way signs are placed on the side of a block or on a post:
- Wall placement: a way sign used on the side of a block becomes a wall sign. The block holds two signs, one in the upper half and one in the lower half. The half is chosen by where the player clicks, and a half that already holds a sign cannot take another.
- Post placement: a way sign used on a fence, a stick or an end rod converts that block into a way sign post. Column-shaped 4×4 blocks from other mods are treated as fences.
- Waterlogging: way signs can be waterlogged.
- Breaking: a way sign has a hardness of 1 and a blast resistance of 1, and it is mined with an axe. Breaking the block returns its sign items.
Way signs stack to 16 in the inventory. All variants have the same stats, so the wood type changes only the appearance.
