The Safe is a lockable storage block added by Supplementaries. It holds 27 item slots, the same as a single chest, and can be locked with a password set by a key. Its blast resistance of 1200 makes it one of the most durable containers in the pack, and it is a reliable store in a horror world where explosions and fire are common.

Safes are also placed in the galleon shipwrecks of the Galleon structure, where they hold loot of their own.

A safe is not stackable. It needs a diamond pickaxe or better to mine, and its hardness is 50.

Obtaining

A safe is crafted from a Shulker Box and a Netherite Ingot in the crafting grid, in any arrangement. The shulker box is converted into a safe, and any shulker box colour works, because the recipe accepts the c:shulker_boxes item tag. The recipe is only available while the safe flag of the pack is enabled, which it is in Fear Nightfall (functional.safe is enabled = true).

No crafting recipe.

Galleon safes generate in the ship structure. Each one holds a single roll from a loot table of 14 entries, which can include blue bombs, a diamond axe, a golden sword, TNT, diamonds, emeralds, gold ingots, experience bottles, Lumisene bottles and spectral arrows. See the Galleon page for where the ship is placed.

Usage

Placement and lid

A safe is placed facing away from the player who places it. Its front face carries the lock and the lid, and the safe opens only from there. Opening is blocked when the block directly in front of the safe is a redstone conductor, such as a full block of stone, so keep that side clear if the safe is to be used. Mobs cannot path through a safe.

A safe placed in a full water source is waterlogged, and one placed in a full lava source is lavalogged. A lavalogged safe emits light at level 15.

Locking with keys

The pack leaves the simple_safes option off, so safes use the key lock. A key is any item in the supplementaries:keys tag, which includes the Supplementaries key item. A key's password is its custom name, or the text Key if the key has no name.

  • A safe with no password opens for anyone who uses it.
  • The first key used on a safe with no password sets the safe's password to that key's name.
  • After that, a key with the same name opens the safe, whether it is held in the hand or anywhere in the player's inventory.
  • A key with a different name does not open the safe, and the player receives a message.
  • Using the correct key while sneaking clears the password, which unlocks the safe again.
  • Creative players can open any safe and clear any password.

A correct key cannot be placed into the safe it opens. Other items placed in the safe must be allowed in shulker boxes.

Owner

The player who places a safe becomes its owner, and the owner is shown in the item tooltip. The owner setting matters for two options that the pack does not use. With simple_safes on, the first player to open a safe owns it, and only the owner can open it. With prevent_breaking on, only the owner or a creative player can break it. In Fear Nightfall both options are off, so the owner has no effect on access.

Breaking and drops

Breaking a safe drops it as an item that keeps its contents, its custom name and its password. The lock therefore moves with the item when it is picked up and placed again, and the next player still needs the key to open it.

Redstone and automation

Safes do not accept or give out items through any face, so hoppers and other automation cannot move items into or out of a safe. A comparator reading a safe gives a signal of 15 while the safe is not public, meaning it is locked, and 0 when it is public.

Piglins

Opening a safe angers nearby piglins. Players who open safes near a Nether base should expect piglins to react.

Tips

  • Name the key before using it on the safe. An unnamed key uses the password Key.
  • Keep the front of the safe free of full blocks, or the lid cannot open.
  • Use a comparator to detect whether a safe is locked. The signal drops to 0 once the password is cleared.
