Cannons and Cannon Boats are artillery added by Supplementaries. The Cannon is a block that fires Cannonball items, or other loaded items, as projectiles. A Cannon Boat is a boat with a cannon mounted on it, made in one variant per boat type. Cannonballs break blocks in a small radius and damage mobs. The cannon block is hard to destroy: it has a hardness of 5, a blast resistance of 1200 and requires a pickaxe.
Cannon boats matter more in Fear Nightfall than in the base mod. Pillagers can crew them, and raids can spawn in open water near villages, so cannon boats appear in naval raids (see Raids and Illagers). In naval waves, half of the pillagers are replaced by Plunderers by default.
Obtaining
Cannons, cannonballs and cannon boats are all crafted. Cannons and cannonballs can also be bought from the Red Merchant, whose 12-item trade table includes both. Cannonballs are found in the chests of Galleon shipwrecks, as the loot table below shows.
Crafting
Cutting Board · Cutting Board
Cutting Board · Cutting BoardA cannon has two recipes. The first uses five iron ingots, a dispenser and three oak planks, where the planks slot accepts 84 alternative ingredients. The second replaces the dispenser with a Slingshot and adds a redstone dust. Five blocks of iron make eight cannonballs.
A cannon boat is made by crafting a cannon with a boat of a given wood type. The bamboo variant is made the same way from a bamboo raft. The Cutting Boards can reverse these recipes, returning the boat and the cannon.
Loot and drops
| Item | Chest loot table | Structures | Chance per chest | Avg. stack |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Cannonball | supplementaries:loot/galleon/chest | Galleon | 20.0% | 1.6 |
Cannonballs appear in galleon shipwreck chests. Each chest has a 20% chance to contain them, with an average of 1.6 when they are present.
Usage
Firing a cannon
A cannon is a directional block that faces one of six directions. Right-clicking it opens its inventory, which has two slots. The fuel slot accepts only Gunpowder. The ammunition slot accepts any item that is not in the cannon blacklist tag, which is empty in this pack's build, so cannonballs and other items can be loaded. Sneaking while right-clicking takes direct control of the aim instead.
A cannon has a power setting from 1 to 4, chosen in its inventory screen. A shot uses one ammunition item and gunpowder equal to the power level, so a power-4 shot uses four gunpowder. The cannon does not fire unless it holds at least that much gunpowder and one ammunition item. The launch multiplier is the power level raised to the power 0.6, which gives multipliers of about 1.00, 1.52, 1.93 and 2.30 for levels 1 to 4.
A cannon is ignited by a redstone signal. When it becomes powered, a fuse of 40 ticks (2 seconds) starts and shows sparks, then the cannon fires. After firing it cools down for 60 ticks (3 seconds) before it can be used again. Shots by players in creative mode do not consume ammunition or gunpowder. The player who ignites the cannon is recorded as the source of the shot, so kills count for that player.
Cannonballs
A cannonball is a projectile with a size of 0.75 blocks. When it strikes a block it explodes with a radius of 1.1 blocks, set by the break_radius option. The explosion strength is the cannonball's speed squared multiplied by 3.5, set by power_scaling. Damage and block breaking both scale with this energy, so a fast cannonball hits harder than a slow one. Cannonballs that collide with each other exchange momentum and bounce.
TNT-like blocks are also valid ammunition. How they behave when fired is set by the explode_tnt option, which this pack leaves at IGNITE.
A mob killed by a cannonball fired by a player can drop the Heave Ho disc from the Music Discs set, if the music_disc_heave_ho option is on. This option is on in this pack.
Cannon boats
A cannon boat is a boat with an inventory and a cannon. A rider in the driver seat starts aiming by pressing jump, and fires through the boat's fire input. Each shot pushes the boat back by recoil. The recoil multiplier is 0.5 by default, and this pack keeps that value. A cannon boat can take a banner. When it is destroyed, its inventory drops.
Pillagers can crew cannon boats. Entities that can use them are listed in the supplementaries:can_use_cannon_boat tag, and the pillagers_use_cannon_boats option is on in this pack.
Fear Nightfall notes
Cannon boats are part of the naval raid setup. Raids can spawn boats in open water near villages with a chance of 0.75, and in naval waves pillagers are replaced by Plunderers with a chance of 0.5. Both values are the mod's defaults and are active in this pack.
Items
The table lists the cannon, the cannonball and one cannon boat per wood type. Some cannon boat names appear more than once because they come from different mods in the pack: Biomes O' Plenty, Regions Unexplored and Hexerei each add their own wood types, and each such boat is a separate item.
