The Flute and Wrench are two hand tools added by the Supplementaries mod. The flute plays songs and summons bound pets to its holder. The wrench rotates blocks and entities and doubles as a weak melee weapon. Both are early, cheap tools.

Obtaining

Neither item appears in the loot tables, villager trades or mob drops added by the mod, so crafting is the only source.

The flute is made from three Bamboo in a crafting grid. The wrench is made from four copper ingots. Each recipe is unlocked by a recipe advancement that triggers when the player first holds the ingredient.

Usage

Flute

The flute is not stackable and has 64 durability. It is repaired with Bamboo.

Each use of the flute costs one durability when the use button is released, not per note. Holding right-click plays a song from the mod's song set (about 45 songs, mostly novelty tunes). If the flute has a custom name that matches a song's name, that song is played instead of a random one. The flute plays with the note block flute sound. Nearby parrots respond to the music.

Binding pets. Right-clicking an eligible entity with the flute adds it to the flute's pet list:

  • Any tamed TamableAnimal owned by the player, such as wolves, cats and parrots.
  • Any entity in the flute_pet tag, which covers horses, donkeys, mules, llamas, camels, zombie and skeleton horses, and foxes. Horses must be tamed, and foxes must trust the player.

A flute holds up to six bound pets. Trying to bind a seventh shows a message and the flute is left unchanged. Bound pets are listed in the item's tooltip, and a bound flute has an enchantment glint. Binding puts the flute on a one-second (20 tick) cooldown.

Summoning pets. Right-clicking with a bound flute teleports every bound pet within 64 blocks of the player to the player's position, and wakes sleeping pets. The summon has a one-second cooldown. Pets farther than 64 blocks are not moved.

Unbound mode. The unbound config option is off by default. When it is on, a flute with no bound pets summons every tamed animal owned by the player that is within the unbound_radius area (default 64 blocks) and not sitting.

Wrench

The wrench is not stackable and has 200 durability, an attack damage of 3.5 and an attack speed of 2. It is repaired with copper ingots. It can also take the Knockback enchantment.

Every successful action costs one durability.

  • Rotating blocks. Right-clicking a block rotates it 90 degrees around the clicked face. Sneaking while right-clicking rotates it counterclockwise. If the block cannot rotate around the clicked face, the wrench tries the vertical (Y) axis. Beds, chests (a double chest rotates as one) and blocks from the mod that support rotation can be turned. Blocks in the rotation blacklist tag cannot. Rotating a block plays a sound and, on clients with the option enabled, shows particles.
  • Turning entities. Right-clicking an armor stand, or an entity in the rotatable tag, turns it 22.5 degrees. Sneaking turns it the other way.
  • Melee. Hitting a mob with the wrench plays a hit sound and costs one durability per hit.
  • Priority. By default the wrench takes priority over a block's own right-click action when it is in the main hand. The bypass_when_on config option changes this to the off hand or both hands.

The wrench is in the supplementaries:statue_tools and c:tools/wrench item tags. It is also in the travelersbackpack:acceptable_tools tag, which governs what the tool slot of Traveler's Backpack accepts.
