Sack is a container block and item added by Supplementaries. A placed sack holds nine item slots by default, and it can be picked up and carried as a single, non-stackable item that keeps its contents. Sacks are the mod's bulk storage for items, but a player who carries several of them gains the Overencumbered penalty.
Sacks are also unsupported blocks. A sack with empty space beneath it falls like sand, and a falling sack damages the entities it lands on. The penalty and the falling behaviour make the sack a mix of storage and hazard rather than a plain chest substitute.
Obtaining
Sacks have no natural biome spawns and do not appear in ordinary chest loot. Players get them by crafting, or from the container at the bottom of a mineshaft elevator.
Crafting
The recipe takes string in the top-middle slot and seven flax or seven canvas in the remaining slots of the 3×3 grid. Flax is the default ingredient. The canvas version is the same shape and uses canvas in place of flax.
Mineshaft elevators
Mineshaft corridors can contain pulley elevators. When such a shaft has a rope, the container at its bottom is a sack instead of a chest, and that sack is filled from the abandoned mineshaft loot table. Without a rope, the same position holds a regular chest.
Usage
Storage
Right-clicking a placed sack opens its inventory. The inventory has nine slots by default; the slots setting in the Supplementaries common config sets the size anywhere from 1 to 27. The sack's contents are stored in the block entity and drive a redstone comparator signal, so a comparator reads the contents' fullness from the sack.
Opening a sack angers nearby piglins, so a sack should not be opened near piglins that the player wants to keep calm.
Breaking a sack drops the sack item with its contents still inside, and middle-click pick block copies the contents onto the item in the same way. A sack item can be carried with items in it, and it does not nest in other storage. Sacks cannot be placed inside shulker boxes or safes.
Sacks are mined with shears as the effective tool. The block has a hardness of 0.8.
Falling
A sack with air or another non-solid block directly below it falls like sand. A sack hanging on a rope above it does not fall, because the rope supports the ceiling. A falling sack is a separate entity, and it deals damage to entities it lands on. The damage per block fallen is 1 when the sack's comparator signal is 0, and it rises to 6 at a signal of 15. The total damage is capped at 40.
Overencumbrance
The sack penalty is the pack's main gameplay effect for sacks. A sack that holds at least one item counts as 1 toward the player's encumbrance, and an empty sack counts as 0. The count covers the whole player inventory, so one sack filled with nine items still counts as 1. When the count is greater than the sack_increment setting (default 2), the player receives the Overencumbered effect.
With the default setting, the effect levels are:
| Sacks carried | Effect level |
|---|---|
| 3–4 | Overencumbered I |
| 5–6 | Overencumbered II |
| 7–8 | Overencumbered III |
| 9 or more | Overencumbered IV |
Every level prevents sprinting. Level II and higher reduce jump height. Level III reduces movement speed by 15% and level IV by 30%. Level I has no movement or jump penalty beyond the sprint block.
The effect is refreshed every 27 ticks and lasts 10 seconds, so it ends about 10 seconds after the player drops below the threshold. Creative and spectator players are exempt. The penalty is controlled by the sack_penalty setting, which can be turned off, and sack_increment moves the thresholds.
Tips
- Each sack counts once toward encumbrance regardless of how full it is, so consolidating items into fewer sacks keeps the count down.
- Empty sacks do not count toward encumbrance, so a sack can be carried empty without penalty.
- Set
sack_penaltyto off in the Supplementaries common config if the sprint block is not wanted for a play style.
