The Ash is a layered block and item added by Supplementaries. Fire leaves it behind when it burns a solid block, burning mobs can drop it, and it can be smelted into Ash Bricks, which come in a full set of building shapes. Ash stacks up to eight layers in one block space. It falls when it loses support, is washed away by rain, and changes the basalt under it into Ashen Basalt.
The mod also adds the Ash Bricks block family, made from the Ash Brick item, and the Falling Ash entity that carries unsupported ash downward. Ash is dug with a shovel and breaks almost instantly. Ash Bricks and their shapes need a pickaxe.
Obtaining
Ash is not crafted or traded. It enters the world through fire, burning mobs and worldgen.
Fire
When fire consumes a solid block, the block is replaced by ash. The number of layers is a random value below the block's furnace burn time divided by 100, with two extra for log blocks, clamped to 1 through 8. Blocks with a burn time under 100 leave no ash, and non-solid blocks such as plants leave none either. The ash_from_fire_chance setting (default 1.0) switches this behaviour on or off; any nonzero value enables it.
Burning mobs
A mob killed by fire damage while it is on fire has a 15% chance to drop one Ash. Mobs in the ash_blacklist entity tag, displayed as "Can't Turn To Ash", never drop it. The drop is controlled by the ash_from_burning_mobs setting, which is on by default.
Generation
Basalt Ash patches generate on Basalt in basalt biomes, between Y 16 and Y 100. Changing the basalt_ash setting requires a world reload.
Crafting
Ash Bricks are crafted from four Ash Brick, and the slab, stairs and wall are crafted or cut from Ash Bricks. Ash Brick is produced by smelting Ash in a furnace, which takes 200 ticks and gives 0.3 experience, or by cutting Ash Bricks on a cutting board. See the recipe grids below for the exact inputs and outputs.

Usage
Layers
Each layer of ash is 2/16 of a block tall, so eight layers fill a full block. Placing ash on an existing ash block adds one layer, up to eight. Other blocks can be placed into a space holding one to three layers of ash, which replaces it, and any fluid replaces ash at every layer count.
Movement and pathing
Living entities collide with a shape one layer shorter than the block, so a single layer does not block them. Mobs' land pathfinding treats ash with up to four layers as walkable and avoids taller stacks.
Falling
Ash with no support below it falls as a Falling Ash entity, the same way sand or gravel falls. When it lands, it merges into the ash beneath it, up to eight layers per block. A tall column collapses downward in this way.
Landing damage
An entity that lands on ash takes fall damage, scaled to 30% when the stack is more than two layers high. Stacks of one or two layers apply the full fall damage.
Basalt
When ash is placed on Basalt, or when falling ash lands on it, the Basalt directly beneath is converted into Ashen Basalt.
Removal
A brush removes one layer of ash per brushing action, and a thrown splash potion of water removes one layer when it hits the ash. Splash water thrown by a mob removes ash only if mob griefing is on.
Rain
With the rain_wash_ash setting on (the default), ash under open sky is worn away by rain. Each random tick in rain there is a 1 in 4 chance to remove one layer, and each precipitation tick there is a 1 in 2 chance to remove one layer.
Ash Bricks
Ash Bricks is a block family with a full block, slab, stairs and wall. Each shape is made from Ash Bricks in the recipes listed under Crafting. The Ash Brick item is in the mod's throwable bricks tag, so dispensers and the throwable bricks feature treat it as a brick.
Crafting ingredient
Ash is one of the ingredients in the Soap recipe, which also uses a water bucket and raw porkchop. See Soap and Bubbles for the soap itself.
