Bombs are throwable explosives added by Supplementaries. There are two types: the common Bomb and the rarer Blue Bomb, which scatters a cluster of smaller bombs when it goes off. Bombs are an early-game source of area damage and can break weak blocks like TNT does, which makes them useful for opening up stone walls, hidden rooms and loot chests that a player cannot otherwise reach. They turn up in dungeon, fortress, stronghold and jungle temple chests, and the Red Merchant sells them.

Bombs are not a replacement for TNT. A bomb is a thrown item, so its blast happens where it lands, and it leaves most solid blocks intact.

Obtaining

Crafting

A Bomb is crafted from TNT, iron ingots and string. The recipe makes four bombs at once. Iron ingots fill the top-middle, middle-left, middle-right and bottom-middle slots, a string goes in the top-right slot, and the TNT goes in the center. The recipe grid is shown below.

The Blue Bomb has no crafting recipe. It can only be obtained from chests and from trading.

Loot and drops

Bombs and Blue Bombs are added to many vanilla and structure-mod chests. Bombs are most common in stronghold and nether fortress chests, and Blue Bombs are most common in jungle temple and jungle ruin chests. A dungeon chest can also roll a Blue Bomb with a 1 percent chance per roll. The table below lists every chest that contains them with its chance per chest.

Fear Nightfall keeps these chest additions. Its loot setup copies the Supplementaries additions onto the vanilla chest tables with the same items and chances, so they also reach the structure chests that the pack maps to those tables. Many of these chests are managed by Lootr, which gives each player their own copy of the loot.

Trading

The Red Merchant has its own trade table that includes both bomb types:

  • Bomb: 2 emeralds for 1 Bomb, up to 12 trades per restock.
  • Blue Bomb: 40 emeralds and 1 Bomb for 1 Blue Bomb, up to 3 trades per restock.

On Christmas, Supplementaries wraps these offers as presents. The trade itself is unchanged.

Usage

Throwing

Right-clicking throws a Bomb in the direction the player is facing, with a slight upward angle. The thrown bomb travels at a speed of 1.25 blocks per tick and falls under a gravity of 0.04. The item has a 30-tick (1.5 second) cooldown, which the cooldown option can disable. Bombs can also be fired from a Slingshot, and dispensers can launch them.

Detonation

By default, bombs have no fuse (the bomb_fuse option is 0), so they explode on contact:

  • Hitting a block makes the bomb stop and detonate. Blocks in the mod's bouncy-block tag do not stop a bomb that hits them from above, so the bomb bounces off instead.
  • Hitting an entity deals 1 damage to it and then detonates the bomb.
  • A bomb hitting a ghast fireball destroys the fireball and becomes supercharged. A supercharged Bomb sets off a second blast of power 6 at the same point, after the normal blast. A supercharged Blue Bomb produces twice as many baby bombs.
  • Bomb blasts do not set off other bombs.

If bomb_fuse is set to any value other than 0 (up to 100,000 ticks), bombs ignore contact and explode once that many ticks have passed.

Water

A Bomb that enters water is extinguished. It stops being live and can no longer explode. An inert bomb that hits something breaks apart without a blast, and a player who walks into one picks it up. Blue Bombs are waterproof and remain live underwater.

Blast

A normal Bomb has an explosion radius of 2 blocks, and damage scales with radius. A Blue Bomb has a radius of 3 blocks. Bombs break only weak blocks. Those are blocks that water can replace, blocks that TNT would also break, and the mod's bomb-breakable tag, which covers urns, gravel bricks, TNT and icicles. Stone, planks and most other solid blocks are not broken. Bombs thrown by a player always break blocks. Bombs thrown by mobs break blocks only when the mobGriefing game rule is on. Claim mods can block block-breaking as well.

Normal Bombs apply no status effects. Blue Bomb blasts apply Weakness for 30 seconds to any living entity within 7.5 blocks, which is 2.5 times the blast radius.

Blue Bomb

A Blue Bomb behaves like a larger Bomb, then scatters five baby bombs (the split_count option, range 0 to 32). The babies are launched in a ring over the face of the block the Blue Bomb hit, so they land close to the blast rather than inside the ground. Each baby bomb has an explosion radius of 1.2 blocks and cannot detonate for the first 10 ticks (half a second). A baby bomb that hits something during that time waits and then detonates when the timer runs out, so the babies do not merge into one blast.

Each baby bomb sets living entities within 3 blocks on fire for 5 seconds (the baby_fire_duration option). Setting split_count to 0 turns the Blue Bomb into one plain, larger bomb.

Items

Bombs come as two items. The table below is generated from game data.

  • Bomb: the standard item. It stacks to 64.
  • Blue Bomb: the rarer item. It stacks to 64 and is waterproof.
