Timber Frames and Daub are a set of seven building blocks added by Supplementaries. The set has two parts. Timber frames are wooden blocks that can hold a solid block inside them, and they take on the appearance and light level of the held block. Daub is a clay and straw material. It is used to craft the wattle and daub blocks, and placing it into an empty timber frame converts that frame into the matching wattle and daub block.

Obtaining

All seven blocks are crafted. None of them is added to chests by the mod's loot injections, so crafting is the only documented source.

Usage

Timber frames

A timber frame is placed as an empty block. Right-clicking it with a solid full block item inserts that block, and the held block is then displayed inside the frame. Blocks that have a block entity, such as chests and furnaces, cannot be inserted, and bedrock is excluded. Feather blocks and soul sand are accepted as exceptions to the solid-block rule.

A frame that holds a block behaves as a solid full cube. It blocks light, casts darker shading than an empty frame, and mobs cannot path through it. An empty frame lets light and skylight pass through.

A frame's light level matches the light emission of the block it holds, from 0 to 15. A glowstone block inside a frame makes the frame emit light at level 15.

A frame placed into a water source block becomes waterlogged.

Timber frames can be stripped with an axe. Right-clicking a filled frame with an axe removes the frame, drops the frame item, and leaves the held block in place. The axe takes 1 point of durability. This behaviour is enabled by default and is on in this pack's configuration.

Timber braces and cross braces

Timber braces and timber cross braces are inserted into and stripped in the same way as timber frames.

A timber brace has a flipped state, which is set when it is placed. The brace is flipped if it is placed against the top face of a block, or against the lower half of a side face. It is not flipped if it is placed against the bottom face, or against the upper half of a side face.

Daub

Daub is a solid decorative block and does not hold another block. Placing daub into an empty timber frame replaces the frame with the matching wattle and daub block. Timber frames become wattle and daub frames, timber braces become wattle and daub braces, and timber cross braces become wattle and daub cross braces. The replacement keeps the block-state properties of the original frame, such as the flipped state. This replacement is enabled in this pack's configuration.

The daub recipe is gated by a configuration flag. The flag is enabled in this pack, so daub can be crafted using the recipe above.

Wattle and daub blocks

The wattle and daub frame, wattle and daub brace and wattle and daub cross brace are crafted from daub and sticks. They have no inner block, so they cannot be filled. See the table below for their hardness, blast resistance and tool.

Items

  • Timber Frame: The basic frame. It can hold a solid block and emits that block's light level.
  • Timber Brace: A frame with a flipped state that depends on the placement face.
  • Timber Cross Brace: The cross-brace version of the timber frame.
  • Daub: The clay and straw material used to craft the wattle and daub blocks and to convert timber frames.
  • Wattle and Daub Frame, Brace and Cross Brace: The versions created by placing daub into a timber frame or crafting them directly. They do not hold another block.
