Planters and Flower Boxes are two decorative blocks added by Supplementaries. The planter is a waterloggable pot that holds plants and connects visually to a plant placed on top of it. The flower box is a wall, floor or ceiling box that displays up to three plants and emits light from them. Both are cheap to craft and fill the gardens and porches of player builds.

Obtaining

Both blocks are obtained by crafting. Breaking a planter drops the planter itself. Breaking a flower box drops the plants it holds.

The planter has two recipes. The recipe that uses rich soil is the one that applies in this pack: it needs seven bricks, a bone meal and a rich soil from Farmers Delight, arranged around the rich soil in the centre. The recipe with dirt in place of rich soil, which needs four bricks, a bone meal and a dirt, is only available when Farmers Delight is not installed or the rich_soil_planter config option is off. Both options are on by default, and this pack keeps the default settings, so the rich soil recipe is the one to use.

The flower box is crafted from five wooden slabs and one dirt. Any wooden slab works, which gives the recipe many alternatives, and the recipe yields two flower boxes.

Usage

Planter

The planter is mined with a pickaxe and has a hardness of 2 and a blast resistance of 6, which makes it more durable than the flower box.

When a block with a low base sits directly above the planter, the planter's extended state is set to true and its model connects to the plant. Crop blocks and stems do not trigger this connection. Plants and other blocks placed on the planter are not shifted by the random horizontal offset that vanilla applies to some plants, so they sit centred in the pot.

Saplings growing in a planter grow as normal trees by default. The broken_by_sapling config option, which is off by default and off in this pack, would instead turn the planter into rooted dirt when a tree grows out of it.

Flower Box

The flower box has a hardness of 0.5, is mined with an axe and has a blast resistance of 0.5. It can be placed on a wall, on a floor or on a ceiling. A box that loses the block it is attached to is removed. A ceiling box whose block above is replaced by a non-solid block switches to floor attachment instead.

Each flower box has three slots, one for each third of its face. The simple_mode config option, which is on by default and on in this pack, changes this:

  • In simple mode, the box holds one plant in its centre slot. Only tall plants are accepted, such as tall grass, large fern, tall flowers, sugar cane, sweet berries, glow berries, vines, and twisting and weeping vines. Each box therefore holds one tall plant.
  • With simple mode off, the box also accepts short plants and small blocks from the flower box plantable tag, such as mushrooms, bushes, small dripleaf, and berry bushes from several mods. Each of the three slots holds one plant.

The box's light level is the highest light emission of the plants it holds, from 0 to 15. A flower box holding a plant that emits light lights its surroundings, which makes it usable as a small lamp.

Breaking a flower box drops the plants it holds.

Items

The planter and the flower box are both stackable to 64. A flower box can also be burned as fuel in a furnace.
