Items17

The Supplementaries Redstone Components are a set of seventeen blocks and items added by Supplementaries for building redstone circuits and mechanical contraptions. They cover signal processing (Cog Block, Relayer, Redstone Illuminator), signal sources (Crank, Wind Vane), moving parts (Spring Launcher, Turn Table, Bellows, Sliding Block), locks and gates (Lock Block, Key, Iron Gate, Gold Gate), sound and fluid output (Speaker Block, Faucet), and two utility items listed with them, the Hourglass and the Minecart with Dispenser.

Most of the components carry a redstone signal in the same way as vanilla blocks, using the 0 to 15 signal strength of redstone dust. Several of them add behaviour that vanilla lacks, such as a relayer that reads a signal from the block it faces, or a bellows that pushes entities with air. Numbers given in this article are the default values of the Supplementaries configuration unless stated otherwise.

Obtaining

Every component is obtained by crafting. Recipes use common materials such as iron, gold, copper, redstone dust, stone, planks, and a few special items such as a sea lantern, a slime block and a sticky piston. The crafting grids are shown below.

Usage

Signal processing

A Cog Block stores the strongest signal from its neighbours, clamped to 0 to 15, and outputs one less than that. A chain of cogs therefore weakens a signal by one level per block, and a signal of 1 or less produces no output.

A Relayer reads the redstone signal from the block it faces and outputs its stored power from its back side. It updates one game tick after a change. Two relayers that face each other do not keep waking each other up, so they do not create an endless update loop. Unlike a repeater, it can read a signal from any face of the block in front, including redstone dust and diodes.

A Redstone Illuminator lights at a light level of 15 minus its power, so it is at full brightness with no signal and goes dark at a signal of 15. Its comparator output is 15 minus its power. It gives no comparator output at full power.

Signal sources

A Crank has a power level from 0 to 15 that it changes on each use. Right-clicking turns it one step clockwise, and Shift-right-clicking turns it one step counterclockwise, with the level wrapping around at both ends. It outputs its level as a redstone signal. A Crank placed directly behind a Pulley, along the Pulley's axis, can wind that Pulley.

A Wind Vane outputs a signal and comparator value that depend on the weather. It reads 0 in clear weather, 1 while it is raining, 2 during a thunderstorm, and 3 after an explosion that can trigger blocks has hit it. Its output is a signal of the same strength. It is useful for triggering a machine during storms.

The Hourglass is an item display block. Its comparator output reads an internal value. See Display Blocks for the item display blocks in the mod.

Movement

A Spring Launcher extends a launcher arm in the direction it faces when it receives a redstone signal from any side. The arm only extends into air or into a block that breaks when pushed, and any such block is dropped as an item. Entities in the arm's path are launched at the configured velocity, which defaults to 1.5 and can range from 0 to 16. Landing on an upward-facing launcher head after falling more than 5 blocks (the default fall height) triggers an automatic launch.

A Turn Table rotates the blocks and entities around its facing axis, one step at a time, while it is powered. The time between steps is 64 minus 4 times its power, so a Turn Table takes 4 ticks per step at full power and 60 ticks at power 1. Entities standing on it are rotated by default. Right-clicking one of its side faces toggles the direction of rotation.

A Bellows blows air out of its front face while it is powered. The power level sets how fast it blows. It pushes entities in front of it, but it does not push entities that are already moving faster than its configured maximum velocity. A mob standing on a Bellows operates it at a fixed power of 7. The air it blows can keep fire alive within a range of 5 blocks.

A Sliding Block is a falling block. It falls when there is no support beneath it. It does not fall while a rope supports it from above, or while a honey block touches it from the side. When it lands on an entity, it deals 1 damage per block fallen, up to 10 damage. Right-clicking one of its side faces tries to slide it one block in that direction. A Sliding Block on ice is moved when a piston pushes it.

Locks, gates and keys

A Lock Block is opened by using it with a key. An unclaimed lock opens for any use. A key that carries a password claims the lock, and from then on only a player carrying a matching key can open it. Shift-using a matching key on the lock clears the claim. An opened Lock Block emits a redstone signal of 15 for 20 ticks.

A Key is worn as an accessory in the belt slot (through Curios) or the legs slot (through Trinkets). It is the item that opens Lock Blocks.

Iron Gate and Gold Gate are gate blocks that connect to walls. Both can be opened by hand, and redstone power also opens and closes them. The door-like gates option in the building configuration makes them behave like doors, so they can only be opened by redstone. This option is off by default.

Sound and fluid output

A Speaker Block sends its stored message when it receives a rising redstone edge, but only if the block in front of it is empty. Applying Antique Ink to a Speaker Block changes it to its antique variant.

A Faucet is open when exactly one of two states is on. Those states are its enabled state, which a right-click toggles, and its powered state, which follows the redstone signal around it. Redstone power never changes the enabled state, so a faucet that is toggled on while powered is closed.

Minecart with Dispenser

A Minecart with Dispenser carries a dispenser inventory. When a powered rail gives it power, it dispenses one item from its inventory, and it does so only on the rising edge of the signal, so it does not keep dispensing while the rail stays powered.
