The Lunch Basket is a portable food container added by Supplementaries. It holds several stacks of food and drink in a single item, so a player can carry a supply of meals without filling the inventory with loose food. The basket can be eaten from directly, and the selected slot is consumed as the player eats.

Obtaining

The Lunch Basket is crafted. It does not appear in any loot table in the pack, so it cannot be found in chests or dropped by mobs.

Lunch Basket · Crafting

The recipe is a shaped crafting recipe with six bamboo and one carpet in the centre of the middle row. The carpet slot accepts a white carpet or any of the 15 other carpet colours, so the colour of the carpet only changes the recipe input, not the result. The Lunch Basket is not stackable.

Usage

Storage

The basket holds up to 6 slots by default. The slot count is a config value from 1 to 9, and changing it requires a server restart.

Only certain items can be inserted. An item must:

  • use the eat or drink animation, which covers food, drinks and potions that are drunk;
  • be allowed inside container items at all;
  • not be listed in the supplementaries:lunch_basket_blacklist item tag.

The blacklist excludes splash and lingering potions, the Lunch Basket itself, and the potion containers from other mods (Potion Bundles and Ars Nouveau potion flasks). Splash and lingering potions are thrown rather than drunk, so they are the main case where the blacklist matters.

Items are inserted in three ways:

  • Right-click the basket while holding an item in the off hand. The item moves into the basket if it is valid.
  • Shift and right-click the basket to cycle the selected slot. The selected slot is the one that is eaten from next.
  • Right-click the basket to start eating the selected item.

Opening and closing

Left-clicking the basket toggles it between open and closed, with a different sound for each state. A closed basket does not offer its food for eating. The basket cannot break blocks, so left-clicking a block with it does nothing.

Eating

When the basket is open and the player right-clicks it, the selected food is eaten with the same use time and animation as the food itself. When eating finishes, one item is removed from the selected slot. Items left behind by eating, such as a glass bottle from a potion or a bucket from milk, are put back into the basket if there is room. Otherwise they go to the player's inventory, and if the inventory is also full they are dropped on the ground.

The basket also receives the food cooldown of the item it is eating, so the basket shows the same cooldown bar as the food. The cooldown applies to the basket as an item.

Placement and dye

The Lunch Basket can be placed on the ground as a block, with a hanging variant. This is controlled by the placeable config option, which is on by default. The basket has dyed block and item models, so it can be dyed.
