End Reef is an End highlands biome added by Biomes O' Plenty. It is one of three BOP biomes in The End, alongside End Wilds and End Corruption. Unlike the barren vanilla End islands, it is a water-rich biome with pale, cool-toned colours and a set of sea-floor features. It is a good place to find End structures, because 47 structures can generate in it, including several large End builds from other mods.

In Fear Nightfall the biome is not weighted for horror. It is a quiet, unusual place rather than a frightening one, but the pack's End spawn changes still apply to it, as described in the Generation section below.

Description

End Reef has a pale, cyan-white palette. Its grass, foliage and water are all tinted #E5FFFC, so the ground cover and the surface water look almost white. The sky is fully black, as in the rest of The End, and the fog is a muted mauve. The water fog is a dark slate colour, which limits how far a player can see underwater.

The biome has no precipitation. Its ambient particles are wisp bubbles, which drift through the air at a low rate, and its ambient mood sound uses the legacy cave settings, so the biome is quiet and echoing.

The reef is built from sea-floor features rather than trees. Dead coral and dead coral patches lie on the ground, barnacles grow as vegetal features, and patches of dead grass are scattered over the land. Jagged sandstone and tidepools form underground, and wispjelly grows as a vegetal feature. The biome adds no tree features.

Generation

End Reef is placed in the End highlands region, which Biomes O' Plenty registers with The End through TerraBlender. The three BOP highlands biomes use weights of 9 for End Wilds, 6 for End Reef and 3 for End Corruption, so End Reef is the middle choice among them. Vanilla End biome placement is otherwise unchanged. The biome's share of the world is shown in the infobox.

Its climate is temperature 0.5 and downfall 0.5, with no precipitation. It is tagged as a cold biome, so it counts as cold for Biomes O' Plenty's Tough As Nails integration and for the frog variant rules.

End Reef is not one of the biomes weighted 6× for horror in Fear Nightfall. Born in Chaos mobs do not spawn here, because the pack limits that mod's spawn modifiers to the Overworld. The only natural spawns in the biome are the water ambient creatures listed in the table below.

Features

  • Dead coral and dead coral patches: scattered on the ground as vegetal features.
  • Barnacles: placed as vegetal features.
  • Wispjelly: a vegetal feature unique to this biome.
  • Patches of dead grass: scattered over the ground.
  • Jagged sandstone and tidepools: underground decoration.
  • Butchery features: deepslate sulfur ore, salt disc generation and sulfur regeneration are placed in this biome by the Butchery mod.
  • End gateway: the end gateway return structure is placed on the surface.

Mobs and structures

End Reef has 47 structures that can generate in it. These include the vanilla End City, the End Castle, Lighthouse and Ship set, the End Mega Ships set, AdoraBuild End Structures and an End shipwreck from Explorify. The biome's natural spawns are water ambient creatures, listed in the table below.

Tips

  • End Reef has no precipitation, so rain is never a concern while crossing it.
  • Water fog is dark, so light a path or bring a light source before working underwater.
  • Many of the 47 structures are large End builds. Bring enough food and light to explore several of them in one trip.
  • Because the biome is cold for Tough As Nails, its cold effects apply, so carry warm clothing or plan a shelter for long stays.
