The Visceral Heap is a Nether biome added by Biomes O' Plenty. It is marked by blood pools, flesh growths and hanging tendons, and by a dedicated music track. Its spawn settings are dominated by hostile mobs: zombified piglins and ghasts spawn in groups of four, which makes it one of the more dangerous Nether biomes to cross.
Description
The biome has a dark red fog (#601f18) and a blue sky tint (#6eb1ff). Flesh terrain covers much of the surface: porous flesh, flesh tendons that hang from the ceiling, hair, pus bubbles and eyebulbs. Flesh blocks grow onto neighbouring spaces on random ticks, so the growths spread over time if left alone. See Flesh and Visceral Heap Blocks for the individual blocks.
Blood is a custom fluid added by Biomes O' Plenty. It is denser and more viscous than water, and it has its own fog and overlay on the client. Blood pools and blood springs form in the biome as part of its terrain.
Ambient sounds are the Nether Wastes loop and the Crimson Forest additions, with a dedicated music track for the biome (music.nether.visceral_heap).
Generation
Visceral Heap generates in the common Nether region of Biomes O' Plenty, which places it at one of four fixed points, replacing the vanilla Warped Forest slot. It is not one of the biomes that Fear Nightfall weights 6× as horror biomes, so its share of the Nether is set by the Biomes O' Plenty placement alone. The share in the infobox shows how much of the Nether this biome covers in this pack.
Features
The biome's terrain features include:
- Blood lakes and blood springs: pools of the Blood fluid set into the terrain.
- Flesh tendons and hanging flesh tendons: growths that hang from the ceiling or grow from the floor. Flesh tendons are climbable.
- Porous flesh, hair, pus bubbles and eyebulbs: decorative and surface blocks on the flesh terrain.
- Nether bone spines: a terrain feature from the biome's feature list.
- Vanilla Nether ores: magma blocks, gravel, blackstone, nether gold, nether quartz, ancient debris and small debris.
- Netherrack speleothems, blotted netherrack, pyroclast crusts and silt flint ore: terrain features from the Nether Exp mod.
- Deepslate sulfur ore and sulfur regeneration: ore and regrowth features from the Butchery mod.
Mobs and structures
The spawn settings are:
- Monsters: zombified piglins (weight 100) and ghasts (weight 50). Each group contains four of the mob.
- Creatures: striders (weight 60), in groups of one to two.
The mob table below lists every spawn for the biome, including the water creatures from other mods. The structure table below lists every structure that can generate here. Vanilla bastion remnants and fortresses are among them, along with structures from several other mods, including Better Nether Fortress, Devil's Misfortune, Chapel and Sanctum and the Formations: Nether Temples and Arenas set.

Tips
- Zombified piglins and ghasts arrive in groups of four, so a player crossing the biome should expect several monsters at once.
- Flesh tendons can be climbed, which makes them useful for moving up and down a cliff, but they are not a defensive position.
- Flesh blocks grow over time, so an area that was cleared will fill back in if left alone.
- Blood is a different fluid from water, and it cannot be converted into a source block. Players who need water in this biome should bring it from elsewhere.
