Fir Clearing is a cool, humid forest biome added by Biomes O' Plenty. It is tagged as a taiga and as a coniferous forest. In Fear Nightfall it is a horror biome: its monster table is long and includes several Born in Chaos and Graveyard mobs, so it is not safe to walk through at night. Its colder variant, the Snowy Fir Clearing, shares the same layout and adds its own monsters and structures.
Fir Clearing has pale blue fog (#c0d8ff), a blue sky (#7ba4ff) and blue water (#3f76e4). The biome plays the ambient cave sound and the overworld forest music. It has rain rather than snow, with a temperature of 0.45 and a downfall of 0.5.
Trees are firs, the coniferous trees of the Biomes O' Plenty fir wood set (see Fir Wood). Fallen fir logs lie on the ground. The ground cover is grass and fern patches, coniferous-forest flowers and Toadstools.
Snowy Fir Clearing
The snowy variant has a temperature of -0.25 and receives snow instead of rain. Its surface share is 0.22% of land, against 0.29% for the normal biome. It has a similar set of tree, plant and ore features, but a larger monster table. The Graveyard Revenant and a Nightmare entry appear only here, and its creature table adds the Shima Enaga. It can also generate igloos and the ice spider den from Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks (see Ice Spider Den).
Generation
Fir Clearing makes up 0.29% of the land surface in Fear Nightfall and 0.04% of the cave layer at y = -30. The biome can contain up to 202 structure sets. Among the horror structures that can generate here are the taiga variants of the Born in Chaos dark tower and clown caravan, the Firewell, the catacombs from Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks, the illager camps and hideouts, and the dead trees from the Graveyard mod.
Fear Nightfall weights horror biomes at 6 times their normal rate and places horror structures about 30% closer together. The pack's horror changes concentrate on temperate-to-cool, humid forests, taigas and swamps, which are about 25% horror. Fir Clearing belongs to that group of climates, so horror content is common here.
Features
Trees: fir trees, and fallen fir logs.
Plants and ground cover: grass and fern patches, coniferous-forest flowers, Toadstools, and Flax from Supplementaries. Wild carrot and wild onion patches come from Farmer's Delight, and rare berry patches and pumpkin patches also generate.
Cave urns: Supplementaries cave urns generate in the biome.
Ores: the biome has the standard overworld ore placements (coal, copper, iron, gold, redstone, lapis, diamond, and the andesite, diorite, granite, gravel and tuff patches). It also has the mod ores Black Argillite, Sulfur and Mithril, plus infected diamond ore from Born in Chaos. See Ores and Mining.
Butchery: the Butchery mod's sulfur ore and salt deposits generate here, which feeds Salt (Butchery).
Mobs and structures
The monster table includes the vanilla Spider, Skeleton, Creeper, Slime, Zombie and Enderman, but most of the table is Fear Nightfall's horror cast. Ghouls from the Graveyard mod (weight 25) and Dread Hounds (weight 7) are in the table, and so are Necromancers (weight 18). Krampus and Bloody Gadflies are rare entries. Passive creatures are sheep, pigs, chickens, cows, foxes, wolves and rabbits, and bats spawn in the air. Water spawns include glow squid, Corpse Fish and a long list of fish from the Tide mod.
