Tundra is a cold overworld biome with open ground, sparse trees and little rain. Two mods add a biome with this name. Biomes O' Plenty adds the Tundra biome, which has rain and orange-brown vegetation. Regions Unexplored adds its own tundra, which has no precipitation at all, so it never rains or snows there. The two biomes have different climates, terrain and mob tables, so they are described separately below. Both are small: each covers well under half a percent of the land in Fear Nightfall (see the infobox).
Tundra is worth finding because its spawn tables are heavy with the pack's horror mobs, including Revenants, Necromancers, Slime Golems and Dread Hounds, and its structures include ice-themed dens and graveyard ruins.
The Biomes O' Plenty tundra is a cool, rainy plain. Grass is tinted orange-brown (#c08359) and foliage is tinted a paler tan (#c5975c), so the land reads as dull and dry rather than green. Water is the standard blue. Fog is pale blue-white and the sky is a muted blue, which gives the biome a bleak, wintry look. A cave ambience sound plays underground.
Regions Unexplored Tundra
The Regions Unexplored tundra is colder and drier than the Biomes O' Plenty version and has no rain or snow. Its grass is reddish-brown (#bc6a52) and its foliage is a dull brown (#b08850). Fog is pale blue-white and the sky is a light blue (#7fa1ff). Patches of coarse dirt show through the surface in areas picked by noise, so the ground looks bare and broken rather than snowy.
Regions Unexplored also has a Frozen Tundra biome. It is registered but removed from world generation, so it never appears in a world.
Generation
Both tundra biomes are cold overworld biomes.
Biomes O' Plenty Tundra has a temperature of 0.2 and a downfall of 0.5, so it rains rather than snows. It makes up about 0.35% of the land surface and about 0.03% of the cave layer at y = -30.
Regions Unexplored Tundra has a temperature of -0.3 and a downfall of 0. It is a direct replacement for vanilla Snowy Plains where humidity is below -0.1, with weight 100 in that replacement. It makes up about 0.28% of the land surface and about 0.01% of the cave layer at y = -30. Because the biome has no precipitation, snow never falls on it, even though it is cold.
Neither tundra is on the Fear Nightfall list of biomes weighted six times for horror. Their horror content comes from the spawn tables, which are covered in the mobs section.
Features
Trees
Biomes O' Plenty tundra trees are small twiglet trees. About one in ten is a small dead twiglet tree, which gives the biome its bare look. Regions Unexplored tundra has two types of conifer. A spruce-style tree is four times as common as a pine-style tree. Both use pine branch and pine leaf blocks. Regions Unexplored also adds small and large oak shrubs, with the small shrub three times as common as the large one.
Shrubs and plants
Biomes O' Plenty tundra has tundra shrub patches. Each patch makes up to 96 placement attempts within 7 blocks, and three patches are tried per chunk. A tundra shrub drops itself only when broken with shears.
Biomes O' Plenty tundra adds a scatter of wild flax and cave urns, and Farmers Delight's wild potatoes also spawn there.
Regions Unexplored tundra has a flower patch, a sparse fern patch and a dense short-grass patch.
Rocks and terrain
Regions Unexplored tundra has rock groups. Cobblestone rocks appear most often, and large mixed cobblestone formations are half as common. Biomes O' Plenty tundra has scattered rocks and extra gravel disks. Both tundras use the standard vanilla ore placements, from coal and copper to diamond and lapis, along with the ore features from Born in Chaos, including black argillite and infected diamond ore.
Mobs and structures
Both tundras share most of their monster table, which is dominated by horror mobs. Notable entries include the Revenant (weight 25 in both), the Necromancer (weight 18), the Slime Golem (weight 25), and the Dread Hound (weight 7). The biomes differ in their skeletons and creatures.
Biomes O' Plenty Tundra adds Ghouls (weight 25), Nightmares (weight 7) and a few Mutant Skeletons (weight 5). Its passive creatures are wolves (weight 5) and ferrets (weight 4), not rabbits.
Regions Unexplored Tundra has Strays as the main skeleton (weight 80, against 20 for the ordinary skeleton). Rabbits (weight 10) are its only passive land creature.
Biomes O' Plenty tundra allows about 200 structures and Regions Unexplored tundra about 170. The Ice Spider Den, the Catacombs and the Altar (The Graveyard) generate in both. A Clown Caravan generates in the Biomes O' Plenty variant. Ice-themed and graveyard structures are the most typical kinds.
Carry shears if you plan to gather tundra shrubs in the Biomes O' Plenty tundra. Without shears, breaking one gives nothing.
Expect the horror spawn table at night. Revenants and Necromancers are common in both tundras, and Nightmares spawn only in the Biomes O' Plenty variant. Arrive with armour and a ranged weapon.
The Regions Unexplored tundra has no rain, so there is no weather cover from rain or snow. Plan for open sight lines when you travel.
Ice Spider Dens and Catacombs are dangerous to enter unprepared. Clear them carefully before you rely on them as shelter.
