Shrubland is a family of bush-covered overworld biomes. Fear Nightfall includes five of them: one from Biomes O' Plenty, one from Regions Unexplored, and three from Terralith (the standard Shrubland, Hot Shrubland and Cold Shrubland). The variants differ in climate, ground cover and tree types, but all of them are covered in shrubs and small trees. They are common enough to matter for a player's route through the pack, and each one carries a full set of hostile spawns, so a shrubland is a place where horror mobs can appear at night.
The variants are described below in the order of their mod: Biomes O' Plenty, Regions Unexplored, then Terralith. The generated tables at the end of the page list the spawn weights and structures for all five.
The Biomes O' Plenty Shrubland has a temperature of 0.6 and a downfall of 0.05, and it rains. Its water is tinted #3f76e4 and its fog #c0d8ff. Its trees are oak bushes, placed two or three per chunk, with three in one chunk out of twenty. Its flower patches are allium, and its ground cover includes bush patches, lilac patches, reeds and grass patches from the mod's set.
Regions Unexplored Shrubland
The Regions Unexplored Shrubland has a temperature of 0.575 and a downfall of 0.4, and it rains. Its grass and foliage colours come from the mod's own colour overrides, and its water and fog colours match the Biomes O' Plenty variant. Its trees are small oak shrubs (weight 65), spruce shrubs (weight 65), oak bushes (weight 19), and occasional tall spruce trees. Its ground cover includes spruce shrub blocks, and it places red and blue lupine patches as flowers. Regions Unexplored assigns the biome to its plains group. The mod profile gives the placement rule for that group as temperature below -0.1.
Terralith Shrubland
The Terralith Shrubland has a temperature of 1.2 and a downfall of 0, so it has no precipitation. Its grass is tinted #ae9967 and its foliage #b99470. Its surface uses noise to place disks of podzol and brown terracotta, which give the ground patches of bare earth between the shrubs. Its vegetation is bushes, small trees and cone-shaped trees.
Hot Shrubland
The Terralith Hot Shrubland has a temperature of 0.8 and a downfall of 0.4, and it rains. Its grass is tinted #c3af67, its foliage #b9a480 and its water #77e0f7. It uses the same podzol and brown terracotta disks as the standard Terralith Shrubland. Its vegetation is bushes, small trees, cone-shaped trees and tiny trees.
Cold Shrubland
The Terralith Cold Shrubland has a temperature of 0.14 and a downfall of 0, and it snows. Its grass is tinted #937554 and its foliage #b99470. It carries the icy biome tag, and it has the snowy villager tag, so snowy village types can appear in it. Its vegetation is a cold set of bushes, small trees, cone-shaped trees and tiny trees. The biome is one of the places where Iron's Spellbooks ice spider patrols are tagged to appear.
Generation
The five variants share a fairly similar surface share in the Fear Nightfall world: 0.29% of land for the Biomes O' Plenty Shrubland, 0.55% for the Regions Unexplored Shrubland, 0.40% for the Terralith Shrubland, 0.58% for the Hot Shrubland and 0.32% for the Cold Shrubland. The Biomes O' Plenty and Regions Unexplored variants have a cave share of 0.07% at Y = -30, and the Hot Shrubland has 0.03%. The Terralith Shrubland and the Cold Shrubland have no cave share listed.
None of the five variants is one of the biomes that the pack weights 6× for horror. The pack places horror structures about 30% closer together across the whole world, and the shrubland variants share that change with every other biome.
Features
Trees. Each variant has its own tree group. The Biomes O' Plenty Shrubland uses oak bushes. The Regions Unexplored Shrubland uses oak and spruce shrubs with occasional tall spruces. The three Terralith variants use bushes, small trees and cone-shaped trees, and the hot and cold variants add tiny trees.
Ground patches. The Terralith variants place podzol and brown terracotta disks. The Biomes O' Plenty and Regions Unexplored variants place their own ground patches instead.
Flowers. The Biomes O' Plenty Shrubland has allium patches, and the Regions Unexplored Shrubland has red and blue lupine patches.
Ores. All five variants use the standard overworld ore placements for coal, copper, iron, gold, redstone, lapis and diamond. They also include the Born in Chaos infected diamond ore features and the Iron's Spellbooks mithril ore.
Water. The Terralith Shrubland has spring water and spring lava features.
Cave urns and wild flax. The Supplementaries cave urns and wild flax features appear in all five variants.
Mobs and structures
The five variants share most of their monster spawns. Spiders, skeletons, creepers, slimes and zombies are the most common hostile mobs in each, and Slime Golem spawns in all five. Necromancer and Dread Hound appear in all five variants. The Nightmare appears in the Biomes O' Plenty, Regions Unexplored and Cold variants but not in the Hot or Terralith Shrubland. The Revenant appears only in the Cold Shrubland. Passive mobs are sheep, pigs, chickens, cows and horses in every variant, with donkeys and a few other species depending on the mod.
Structures that can generate in shrubland include Haunted House, Catacombs and Covens, along with mod ruins, villages, towers, camps and mineshafts. The Cold Shrubland includes the Iron's Spellbooks ice spider den. The Hot Shrubland includes the Towns and Towers mediterranean village and pillager outpost sets. The full structure and mob tables are generated below.
Check the mob table for the variant you are in before travelling at night. The Cold Shrubland has the Revenant, and the Biomes O' Plenty, Regions Unexplored and Cold variants have the Nightmare.
The Dread Hound, with a weight of 7, appears in all five variants.
The Cold Shrubland snows, so carry warm clothing or a fire source if travelling there in winter.
