The Moor is an overworld biome added by Biomes O' Plenty. It is a wet, cool-temperate landscape of open grass and scattered flowers. In Fear Nightfall its importance lies in what spawns here: the hostile mob list is one of the longest in the pack and is dominated by mobs from Born in Chaos and other horror mods. A player who crosses a Moor at night should expect a dense mix of undead, spiders, and horror creatures.

Description

The Moor has a temperature of 0.6 and a downfall of 0.6, and it rains here. Its grass colour is #71aa70, its foliage colour is #78c46d, and its water colour is #3f76e4. The fog is pale blue (#c0d8ff) and the sky is blue (#7aa5ff). Water fog is a darker blue.

The biome's ambient sound is the vanilla cave ambience, played every 6000 ticks within 8 blocks of the player. Its music is the vanilla jagged peaks track, played with a delay of 12000 to 24000 ticks between tracks.

Vegetation is made of a flower patch of allium and violet, Biomes O' Plenty scrub bushes, and grass and tall-grass patches. The water is classed as dirty water by Tough As Nails, so it should be treated before drinking.

Generation

The Moor is placed by the overworld biome placement of Biomes O' Plenty, which Fear Nightfall rebalances through a custom biome table. In a sample of 251,001 surface points, the Moor appeared 11 times, or about 0.004% of the surface. A player will rarely find one by chance and must travel some distance to reach a Moor.

The Moor is also listed in Biomes O' Plenty's plateau-variant table, so it can appear on plateaus as well as on ground-level terrain. It is not one of the biomes that Fear Nightfall weights six times for horror, so its horror character comes from its mobs and structures rather than from the pack's horror weighting.

Features

  • Flowers: a grass patch of allium and violet flowers, placed on average once every four chunks.
  • Scrub: the common Biomes O' Plenty bush.
  • Grass: short-grass and tall-grass patches.
  • Trees and plants: Hexerei willow trees, swamp flowers, flowering lily pads, and selenite geodes. Farmer's Delight wild carrots, onions, and rice also appear here, and Supplementaries adds cave urns and wild flax.
  • Ores: the vanilla overworld ore set (coal, copper, iron, gold, redstone, lapis lazuli, diamond, emerald, and the stone-variant ores including andesite, diorite, granite, tuff, gravel and dirt). Mod ores are added as well: infected diamond ore and black argillite from Born in Chaos, sulfur ore and salt discs from Butchery, and mithril ore from Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks.

Mobs and structures

The hostile spawn list is the main reason to take the Moor seriously. The most common hostile mobs are the vanilla spider, skeleton, creeper, and slime, each with a weight of 100, followed by the zombie with a weight of 95. Many horror mobs follow, including the Ghoul (weight 25), the Necromancer (weight 18), and the Dread Hound, which spawns in groups of 3 to 5 (weight 7). Less common hostiles include the Nightmare, the Spiders Mother, and the Krampus family. The full list is in the table below.

Passive mobs are sheep, box turtles, pigs, chickens, goats, and cows. The goat is added by the biome's own spawn setup, with a weight of 10. Water creatures are Corpse Fish and glutton fish, and the water ambient list includes freshwater fish such as bluegill, perch, and minnow. Land ambient mobs are bats, roly-polys, snails, and dragonflies. Glow squid spawn in underground water.

Up to 189 structures can generate in the Moor. Several are horror structures, including the Catacombs and the Evoker fort from Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks, the haunted house from Graveyard, the Firewell and grave structures from Born in Chaos, and the illager camp. Placement, biome and loot details are in the table below.

Tips

  • Carry a light source and a weapon that works at range. The hostile list is long, and the strongest mobs appear in groups.
  • Water here is dirty under Tough As Nails. Boil or filter it before drinking.
