The Mangrove Hut is an overworld structure added by Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks. It is a wooden and mud-brick building set in swamp biomes, and it holds alchemy workstations, potions, ink and spellcasting loot. Its chests supply potions and elixir ingredients, which makes it worth searching on a swamp trip.
Generation
The Mangrove Hut generates on the surface of the Overworld, in the Minecraft swamp biome tag (#c:is_swamp). It covers 17 biomes, including Mangrove Swamp, Swamp, Bayou, Marsh, Bog, Fen and Fungal Fen variants, so it appears wherever a swamp biome is generated.
Placement uses random spread with a spacing of 48 chunks and a separation of 34 chunks. These are the in-game values after the pack's Sparse Structures scaling. In a 26 km² sample of the pack's world, one hut was observed, so a hut is an occasional find rather than a common one.
The structure is placed during the surface structure stage, before plants and ores generate. Its start height is set to the world surface, and its pieces adapt to the surrounding terrain (the thin beard terrain adaptation), so the hut sits on the ground and blends into the slope rather than floating or cutting into it. A typical hut measures about 40 by 51 by 51 blocks.
From the outside, the hut is built from spruce and oak planks, stone bricks and mud bricks. During generation, about 15% of mud bricks become brown mushroom blocks and about 10% become packed mud. Mangrove trapdoors and doors, mangrove stairs and spruce fences, stairs and slabs appear on the exterior.
Because the pack weights horror biomes heavily in temperate, humid forests, taigas and swamps, swamps are a common setting for horror content in Fear Nightfall. A Mangrove Hut can share a swamp with horror structures and horror biome mobs, so approach the swamp with the same caution as any other horror area.
Layout
The interior contains eight chests, five barrels, and several functional blocks that suggest an alchemist's workplace. The notable blocks are:
- an Alchemist Cauldron for brewing;
- an Inscription Table for writing scrolls;
- a lectern holding a writable book;
- campfires, lanterns and candles for light;
- a bed, a hay bale block and a bell;
- potted plants, flowers and mushrooms, along with cave vines and a moss carpet.
The hut has no monster spawners and places no mobs. Any danger comes from the surrounding swamp.
Inhabitants
The Mangrove Hut places no mobs and no spawners. It contains no bosses. The hut is a loot site only.
Loot
The hut's eight chests draw from four loot tables. The hidden potion storage and the potion ingredient storage chests are the most generous sources of random potions and elixirs, and the hidden storage chest is the only one that guarantees netherward tinctures.
- Main hut chests (2 chests). Ten rolls from a general pool with arcane essence (1 to 3 per stack), nether wart, brown and red mushrooms, copper ingots and ferns. Each hut chest also rolls 1 to 3 random potions or elixirs, 0 to 5 poor ink, 0 to 2 nature-school scrolls, and a 40% chance of a basic curio.
- Potion ingredient storage (2 chests). Ten rolls for glass bottles (most common), water potions and emeralds, plus 0 to 2 random potions or elixirs. This chest is the best source of empty bottles in the hut.
- Hidden potion storage (1 chest). Fifteen rolls for emeralds (2 each) or arcane essence (2 each), plus 3 to 5 random potions or elixirs and 2 to 5 netherward tinctures. This is the richest chest in the hut.
- Generic magic treasure (3 chests). Uses the mod's shared magic treasure table, which is not specific to this structure.
The generated table below lists every chest with its items.
Biomes (17): Muskeg, Bayou, Ice Marsh, Floodplain, Mangrove Swamp, Orchid Swamp, Bayou, Willow Swamp, Swamp, Marsh, Fen, Wetland, Bog, Marsh, Moor, Fungal Fen, Old Growth Bayou
Tips
- Bring a stack of spare bottles or a water source for brewing, since the potion storage chests supply bottles and water potions, not finished brews.
- The hut contains an Inscription Table for writing scrolls from the nature-school loot.
- The potion storage chests carry the most potion rolls, so search them first if you need elixirs quickly.
- Check the surrounding swamp for horror structures and mobs before you stay in the hut overnight. The pack's horror weighting is strongest in swamps.
