Evocation Spells
Evocation Spells are the seventeen spells of the evocation school in Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks, the magic mod included in Fear Nightfall. The school's theme is illager conjuration: evoker fangs erupting from the ground, volleys of magical arrows, creeper heads that fall and explode, summoned vexes, and a spectral horse. Players who want summons, area damage or crowd control tend to rely on this school.
The school's gear and its mob counterparts are covered in the Overview. Evocation spells are cast from spellbooks and scrolls like every other school, and they use the same mana, cooldown and cast-time rules described below.
Overview
Evocation spells belong to the evocation school. Their damage, summon strength and effect durations scale with the Evocation Spell Power attribute, one of the per-school spell power attributes. Evocation spell power is multiplied with the caster's general spell power attribute. The matching defensive attribute is Evocation Magic Resist.
Gear and items that boost the school:
- Archevoker armor is the school's armor set. Its pieces grant evocation spell power.
- Evocation Spell Power upgrade orbs add 5% to the same attribute per orb. They are applied to equipment at the Arcane Anvil, which accepts up to 3 upgrades per item by default.
The Archevoker is the hostile illager caster associated with the school. The pack also adds extra loot to the drops of vanilla evokers, so evoker kills are a reliable source of school materials.
Spells
Evocation spells share a set of rules. Each spell has a cast type, a mana cost, a cooldown and a maximum level. The table below lists every spell in the school.
| Spell | Description |
|---|---|
Arrow Volley | Around a targeted creature or block, summon a rolling wave of magical arrows from the sky. |
Chain Creeper | Around a targeted creature or block, conjure a ring of creeper heads that falls to the ground and explodes. Any creature killed by this blast will conjure another, smaller, ring of creeper heads. This can chain multiple times. |
Fang Strike | Conjure a line of evoker fangs in front of you, in classic illager fashion. |
Fang Swirl | Target a creature or block to conjure a spiraling zone of evoker fangs in a radius. |
Fang Ward | Conjure protective rings of evoker fangs around you, in classic illager fashion. |
Firecracker | Instantaneously conjure a firework where you look that explodes in a small radius around it. |
Gust | Conjure a strong gust of wind, knocking back creatures in a conical shape, causing damage if they impact a wall |
Invisibility | Cast to briefly grant yourself true invisibility, which hides armor and held items, but immediately wears off upon dealing damage. Mobs also lose aggro. |
Lob Creeper | Lob the head of a creeper forward that explodes in a medium radius around the impact. The higher the level, the faster the projectile. |
Scapegoat | Conjure a magical decoy in the form of a goat, which takes aggro from nearby hostile mobs and runs off into the distance, taunting them for a duration. |
Shield | Conjure a stationary shield of arcane energy where you look that will block projectiles and prevent creatures from passing. |
Slow | Apply the Slowed effect to a targeted creature, decreasing its movement speed, attack speed, mining speed, and cast time reduction for a duration. |
Spectral Hammer | Conjure a spectral hammer out from where you look that will mine all connected stone-type blocks in a cube where it hits, leaving only ores and rubble behind. |
Summon Horse | Conjure a spectral steed that will follow you around and only let you ride. The horse's speed, health, and jump height scales with spell power. |
Summon Vex | Cast to conjure vexes that will follow, protect, and fight for you. |
Throw | Cast to throw your held item, dealing a base damage plus damage normally inflicted by the item. |

Shared rules
- Cast types. Five spells are instant and take effect as soon as they are cast: Firecracker, Lob Creeper, Scapegoat, Shield and Spectral Hammer. All other spells are long casts with a cast time before they fire. Taking damage cancels a long cast unless the damage type is on the game's list of exempt damage types.
- Mana cost. A spell's mana cost is its base cost plus its per-level cost, multiplied by the mana cost multiplier. The pack leaves that multiplier at its default of 1.0.
- Spell power. Spell power equals the base value plus the per-level value times (level - 1), multiplied by the caster's spell power and evocation spell power attributes. The pack leaves the power multiplier at its default of 1.0.
- Levels and rarity. A spell's rarity on a scroll rises with its level. Each spell has a lowest rarity at which it appears, and its maximum level is always legendary. Merging ink into a scroll at the Arcane Anvil can raise its rarity or level.
- Crafting. Scrolls for every evocation spell can be crafted, except Fang Swirl, which is marked as not craftable.
Arrow Volley
Long cast with a 1.5-second cast time, a 15-second cooldown and a maximum level of 6. Minimum rarity is uncommon. Mana cost is 40 at level 1, plus 10 per level above the first, for 90 at level 6.
The spell calls down a rolling wave of arrows around the target. The arrow count is (4 + level) rows of (5 + level / 2) arrows, so 25 arrows at level 1 and 80 at level 6. Each arrow deals spell power × 0.25 damage. Spell power does not rise with level for this spell, so damage per arrow stays the same and the level only adds arrows.
Chain Creeper
Long cast with a 1.5-second cast time, a 15-second cooldown and a maximum level of 6. Minimum rarity is uncommon. Mana cost is 40 at level 1, plus 10 per level.
The spell drops a ring of creeper heads on a target area, and the ring explodes. The ring holds level + 2 heads, so 3 at level 1 and 8 at level 6. Each head's damage equals spell power, which has a base of 5 and does not rise with level. Any creature killed by the blast conjures a smaller ring of its own, so the spell can chain several times.
Fang Strike
Long cast with a 0.75-second cast time, a 5-second cooldown and a maximum level of 10. Minimum rarity is common. Mana cost is 30 at level 1, plus 3 per level, for 57 at level 10.
The spell conjures a line of evoker fangs in front of the caster. The fang count is 7 + level, so 8 at level 1 and 17 at level 10. Spell power is 6 at level 1 and rises by 1 per level, so each fang deals 6 to 15 before modifiers.
Fang Swirl
Long cast with a 1-second cast time, a 28-second cooldown and a maximum level of 8. Minimum rarity is epic. Mana cost is 55 at level 1, plus 8 per level, for 111 at level 8. This spell is not craftable.
The spell targets a creature or block within 32 blocks and conjures a spiraling zone of evoker fangs. The zone's radius is 4.5 + 0.5 × level, so 5 blocks at level 1 and 8.5 blocks at level 8. It lasts 8 seconds. Each fang deals spell power × 0.75, which is 4.5 at level 1 and 10.5 at level 8.
Fang Ward
Long cast with a 0.75-second cast time, a 15-second cooldown and a maximum level of 8. Minimum rarity is common. Mana cost is 45 at level 1, plus 5 per level, for 80 at level 8.
The spell conjures rings of evoker fangs around the caster. The ring count is 2 for levels 1 to 3, 3 for levels 4 to 6 and 4 for levels 7 to 8. Spell power is 8 at level 1 and rises by 1 per level, which sets the damage of each fang.
Firecracker
Instant cast with a 1.5-second cooldown and a maximum level of 10. Minimum rarity is common. Mana cost is 20 at level 1, plus 2 per level, for 38 at level 10.
The spell fires a firework at the point the caster is looking at. The firework explodes in a small radius and deals spell power as damage. Spell power is 4 at level 1 and rises by 1 per level, so 4 to 13.
Gust
Long cast with a 0.75-second cast time, a 12-second cooldown and a maximum level of 10. Minimum rarity is uncommon. Mana cost is 30 at level 1, plus 5 per level, for 75 at level 10.
The spell conjures a strong gust that pushes creatures in a cone with a range of 8 blocks. The push strength equals spell power × 0.2. A creature that is driven into a wall takes damage from the impact. Spell power is 10 at level 1 and rises by 1 per level.
Invisibility
Long cast with a 2-second cast time, a 45-second cooldown and a maximum level of 6. Minimum rarity is rare. Mana cost is 35 at level 1, plus 8 per level, for 75 at level 6.
The spell grants True Invisibility, which hides armor and held items. The duration in seconds equals spell power, so 10 seconds at level 1 and 35 seconds at level 6. The effect ends as soon as the caster deals damage, and mobs lose their aggro. See Iron's Spellbooks Effects for the effect.
Lob Creeper
Instant cast with a 2-second cooldown and a maximum level of 10. Minimum rarity is uncommon. Mana cost is 20 at level 1, plus 2 per level, for 38 at level 10.
The spell lobs a creeper head forward, and the head explodes in a medium radius where it lands. Its damage is spell power × 0.5, which is 6 at level 1 and 10.5 at level 10. Higher levels make the projectile faster.
Scapegoat
Instant cast with a 45-second cooldown and a maximum level of 3. Minimum rarity is rare. Mana cost is 30 at level 1, plus 15 per level, for 60 at level 3.
The spell conjures a magical goat as a decoy. The goat's health equals spell power, which is 20 at level 1 and rises by 10 per level. Nearby hostile mobs take aggro toward the goat, and the goat runs off into the distance while taunting them.
Shield
Instant cast with an 8-second cooldown and a maximum level of 10. Minimum rarity is common. Mana cost is 35 at level 1, plus 5 per level, for 80 at level 10.
The spell creates a stationary shield of arcane energy where the caster is looking. The shield blocks projectiles and stops creatures from passing through it. Its health is 10 + spell power, which is 15 at level 1 and 105 at level 10.
Slow
Long cast with a 1.5-second cast time, an 80-second cooldown and a maximum level of 4. Minimum rarity is epic. Mana cost is 50 at level 1, plus 10 per level, for 80 at level 4.
The spell applies the Slowed effect to a targeted creature. The effect's duration in seconds equals spell power, which is 20 at level 1 and 32 at level 4. Slowed lowers movement speed, attack speed, mining speed and cast speed. See Iron's Spellbooks Effects for the effect.
Spectral Hammer
Instant cast with a 2-second cooldown and a maximum level of 5. Minimum rarity is uncommon. Mana cost is 15 at level 1, plus 5 per level, for 35 at level 5.
The spell launches a spectral hammer from the caster's look direction. Where it lands, it mines every connected stone-type block in a cube and leaves only ores and rubble behind. The cube's depth equals spell power, so 1 at level 1 and 5 at level 5. Its radius is spell power × 0.5, with a minimum of 1 block.
Summon Horse
Long cast with a 1-second cast time, a 20-second cooldown and a maximum level of 5. Minimum rarity is common. Mana cost is 50 at level 1, plus 2 per level, for 58 at level 5.
The spell conjures a spectral steed that follows the caster and can only be ridden by the caster. The horse's speed, health and jump height all scale with spell power. The scaling factor is spell power / 100, which is 1.0 at level 1 and 1.6 at level 5. At level 5 the horse has speed 0.352, jump 0.64 and health 24, against base values of 0.22, 0.4 and 15. The spell can be recast.
Summon Vex
Long cast with a 1-second cast time, a 150-second cooldown and a maximum level of 5. Minimum rarity is rare. Mana cost is 50 at level 1, plus 10 per level, for 90 at level 5.
The spell conjures vexes that follow the caster, protect it and fight for it. Summons are allied with their summoner, and their damage scales with the summoner's summon damage attribute. The spell can be recast.
Throw
Long cast with a 5-tick cast time, an 8-second cooldown and a maximum level of 5. Minimum rarity is common. Mana cost is 10 at level 1, plus 5 per level, for 30 at level 5.
The spell throws the caster's held item. The thrown item deals spell power plus the damage that the item normally deals, so the spell adds to weapon damage rather than replacing it. Spell power is 1 at level 1 and rises by 1 per level.
Wololo
Long cast with a 1.5-second cast time, a 10-second cooldown and a maximum level of 1. Minimum rarity is legendary. Mana cost is 10.
The spell targets a sheep within 32 blocks and recolors it to a random dye color. It has no combat effect.
Tips
- Shield and Fang Ward are the school's defensive options. Shield is instant with an 8-second cooldown, while Fang Ward is a long cast with a 15-second cooldown.
- Fang Strike has a 5-second cooldown and a short cast time, so it can be cast often in a fight.
- Summon Vex has a 150-second cooldown. Set it up before a long fight and keep the summons alive.
- Invisibility ends when you deal damage, so use it to escape or reposition, not to attack.
- Put Evocation Spell Power upgrades on the armor you wear while casting, since the bonus only applies to equipment you are wearing.
