The Cultist is a hostile spellcasting mob added by Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks. It fights with a sword in melee and with blood-based spells at range. It has 60 health (30 hearts), and several of its spells heal it for a share of the damage they deal. It carries the Misery sword and wears Cultist armor, and players can craft that armor themselves.
Spawning
The Cultist has no natural spawn entries. No biome spawns it, no structure in the mod places it, and it is not on the mod's spawn egg list. It appears only when it is summoned directly or spawned by rules from another mod. It is a monster-category mob, so it counts toward the hostile mob cap wherever it appears.
Does not spawn naturally in any biome (see Obtaining/Spawning text).
Behavior
The Cultist is built on the mod's shared neutral wizard base class. Its attacks come from three sources:
- Melee. It attacks with a sword using four combo animations, with an attack interval of 10 to 30 ticks. A melee attack has a 40% chance to chain into a combo. While it is in melee range it moves at 1.5 times its normal speed. Its base attack damage is 3.
- Devour. It casts Devour through a spell barrage goal, at spell levels 3 to 6, with one projectile per cast and a cooldown of 100 to 250 ticks (5 to 12.5 seconds).
- Ranged spells. Between melee attacks it picks spells from fixed lists. The first list holds Blood Needles (twice), Wither Skull and Blood Slash. The second list holds only Ray of Siphoning. It may also drink potions.
Its spells heal it as follows:
- Blood Slash sends a blade of blood forward and heals the Cultist for 15% of the damage it deals.
- Blood Needles fires a ring of blood needles forward and heals the Cultist for 25% of the damage it deals.
- Ray of Siphoning is a held beam of necrotic energy and heals the Cultist for 100% of the damage it deals.
- Devour pulls in a nearby creature, bites it, and heals the Cultist for 15% of the damage it deals.
When it has no target, it patrols within 30 blocks of its position at 0.75 times its normal speed. It looks at players within 8 blocks. It does not guard blocks.
Targeting
The Cultist attacks a player who hurts it. It also targets players who are hostile to it, which is the case when a player's Blood Spell Power attribute is below 1.15. A player with a value of 1.15 or higher is not targeted. Each Blood Power upgrade orb adds 5% of the base attribute value, so a player with several of these orbs is less likely to be targeted.
The base class tracks anger toward individual players. Once a player angers the Cultist, the anger lasts a random 20 to 39 seconds unless it is renewed.
Equipment
Each Cultist spawns with a Cultist Hood, Cultist Armor and the Misery sword in its main hand. All three have a drop chance of 0, so they never drop. The Misery sword carries a Wither Skull spell at level 8.
Players who want the armor must craft it. The Cultist Hood is a shapeless crafting recipe made from a wizard base helmet, a Blood Rune and an Arcane Essence, and it can also be made with a smithing transform using the same items. The other three pieces have crafting and smithing recipes as well. The helmet recipe is shown below.

The Cultist drops
Arcane Essence at 0 to 8 items, and Looting increases the amount. Its loot table can also drop a scroll and a good ink from the mod's magic item table. The equipment does not drop.

Tips
- Keep away from the Cultist when its melee combo starts. It moves at 1.5 times its normal speed in melee range, and its attacks come in quick succession.
- Because the Cultist heals from the damage it deals, a fight that drags on lets it recover health. Kill it quickly rather than trading small hits.
- The armor never drops, so craft it from the recipe above if you want the set.
