The Alchemist Cauldron and Elixirs group covers the Alchemist Cauldron, a block added by Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks, and the bottled elixirs, tinctures and potions that it makes and stores. Most of the elixirs are brewed from a reagent item and a fluid inside the cauldron, then bottled. The Greater Potion of Healing is the exception, as it is only bottled from a fluid.

In Fear Nightfall, the mod's chest loot is added to the pack's mapped structure chests, so the elixirs also appear in the End structures and the Mangrove Hut (see Loot and drops).

Obtaining

The Alchemist Cauldron is crafted at a crafting table. Its recipe, and the recipes that make the elixirs and other items on this page, are shown below. All of the elixirs are made in the cauldron rather than in a crafting grid, as described under Usage.

Loot and drops

Most elixirs are found as loot. The Mangrove Hut has a hidden potion storage chest that has among the highest chances for most of the elixirs. Its Netherward Tincture is present in every such chest. The End Castle, Lighthouse and Ship structures and the vanilla end city treasure chests also contain several elixirs. Fire Ale is found in the chests of the Pyromancer Tower. Chances per chest are given in the table below.

Usage

The cauldron

The Alchemist Cauldron has a hardness of 2 and must be mined with a pickaxe. It emits light level 3. It holds up to four item slots, each with one item, and up to 1000 mB of fluid in total, which is enough for four 250 mB bottles. Right-clicking with an item adds one copy to a free slot, and right-clicking with an empty hand (or crouching) takes one item back out.

Standing in the cauldron is harmful. Every 20 ticks, a living entity inside the block takes 2 damage, and the cauldron gains 250 mB of blood fluid if the damage lands. This blood can be bottled as a Blood Vial. Dispensers placed in front of the cauldron also interact with it.

Filling and emptying

Putting a potion item into the cauldron adds 250 mB of that potion's fluid and returns a Glass Bottle. A water bottle adds 250 mB of water. Bottled elixirs work the same way, and each one can be drawn back out: a Glass Bottle used on the cauldron removes 250 mB of the matching fluid and yields a filled bottle. Items that do not match the fluid stored in the cauldron cannot be used this way.

Brewing

The cauldron brews when it holds any fluid. Items placed inside it are processed after about five seconds (more than 100 ticks), with no fire or heat source needed. A brew recipe consumes one reagent item and a set amount of input fluid, then adds the result fluid to the cauldron. The reagent is consumed in the process. Each brew recipe is listed in the Crafting section above.

If the allowCauldronBrewing config is enabled (the default), items that are valid vanilla brewing ingredients can also be mixed into the potion fluid in the cauldron, producing the matching vanilla mix. Scrolls can be dropped into water in the cauldron. Each scroll uses up 250 mB of water and has a 50% chance (the scrollRecycleChance default) to return its ink, as described on Scroll Forge and Inks.

Elixirs and their effects

• Oakskin Elixir gives Oakskin for 60 seconds at level III. The Greater Oakskin Elixir gives it for 120 seconds at level VII. Oakskin reduces damage taken and slows movement.
• Invisibility Elixir gives True Invisibility for 15 seconds. The Greater Invisibility Elixir gives it for 40 seconds.
• Evasion Elixir gives Evasion for 60 seconds at level II. The Greater Evasion Elixir gives it for 60 seconds at level IV. Evasion can cancel incoming damage and projectile hits.
• Greater Potion of Healing heals instantly with Instant Health III.
• Netherward Tincture applies Confusion for 10 seconds to the drinker. It can also be used on a Piglin or Hoglin to make it immune to zombification in the Overworld, and it is consumed on use.
• Tincture of Forgetfulness is used on a Vault. It removes the using player from that vault's list of rewarded players, so the player can claim the vault again. It is consumed on use. The in-game description says it is dropped by ominous bosses.

• Timeless Slurry is an uncommon fluid and item with no drink effect. It is a smithing ingredient for two of the mod's weapons, the Hellrazor and the Legionnaire Flamberge.

Tips

• Keep a few Glass Bottles in your inventory. Each bottle moved in or out of the cauldron uses one.
• The cauldron's fluid capacity is 1000 mB in total. A brew that would exceed this does not run, and the cauldron gives no message, so check the fluid level before adding a reagent.
• Fire Ale is fire resistant as an item, so it can be carried into Nether trips without risk of burning.
