Spell Books are a family of 16 spell containers added by Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks. Each book is a different tier or theme, from the Wimpy Spell Book to the Necronomicon dropped by the Dead King. All of them are Uncommon rarity, not stackable and fire resistant. Books are the containers that hold a player's spells, and their recipes, loot and boss drops are listed below.
Obtaining
Spell Books come from three sources: crafting, chest loot in the mod's structures, and the Dead King's drop.
Crafting
Each book's recipe is shown in the grid below. Several recipes use a Ruined Book, and the Ancient Codex needs a Netherite Ingot.
Loot and drops
Most books appear as loot in the mod's structures. The Rotten Spell Book is the most widespread. It is found in Catacombs coffin chests with a 17.0% chance per chest, and in chests from several other mods' structures. The Necronomicon is not found in chests. It drops from the Dead King when killed by a player, and its drop chance has an enchantment bonus.
In Fear Nightfall, the Catacombs is one of the horror structures that the pack places about 30% closer together, so Spell Books turn up in Catacombs more often than in the stock mod.

Usage
A Spell Book is a spell container. Its spells are held in slots, and the player selects a spell to cast from the spell bar, the spell wheel or a quick-cast key. Casting spends mana from the mana attribute, which has a base maximum of 100 and a percent-based regeneration attribute. Holding right-click on a casting implement starts the selected spell.
Spell Books are worn in the spellbook curio slot. A Spell Book cannot be placed in the generic curio slot.
Casting interruptions
A cast is cancelled in these cases:
- The caster takes damage, unless the damage type is in the mod's long-cast-ignore list.
- The caster opens any container screen.
- The caster changes equipment that is a spell container or a casting implement.
- The caster changes dimension, logs out or dies.
Bookshelves and lecterns
Spell Books are accepted by vanilla bookshelves and lecterns, and lecterns render them. Other mods that use the same book tags for their bookshelves may conflict with this.
Dead King
The Dead King is a boss that drops the Necronomicon. It has an ominous variant that is triggered when a player has a Trial Omen or Bad Omen effect within the boss trigger range. The ominous variant adds 20% damage.
