Bog is a cool, rainy overworld biome added by Biomes O' Plenty. It is a wet biome with a dense hostile spawn list, and the pack's other mods place many horror mobs and structures in it. Players visit it for its plants and ores, and for the monsters that spawn there after dark.
Description
The Bog has a temperature of 0.2 and a downfall of 0.5, and it rains rather than snows. Its grass is tinted #a89557, a dry tan, and its foliage is tinted #c67f5b, a warm rust brown. Standing water is tinted #3f76e4. The fog is #c0d8ff and the sky is #7da2ff, so the biome looks paler and cooler than most swamp-type biomes. The vanilla and Biomes O' Plenty biome tags class the Bog as a taiga biome, so it is grouped with the taigas for structure and mob rules.
Generation
The Bog is registered by Biomes O' Plenty as one of its overworld biomes. Fear Nightfall's custom biome table places it by climate, and biomes of the same type sit next to each other, so the Bog borders other biomes with similar climate. The table gives the Bog a surface share of 0.01% of land. The biome has no cave share at y = -30.
The pack's horror weighting gives six times the weight to biomes such as the Dark Forest, Willow Swamp and bayous. The Bog is not on that list, so its share is set by climate alone. The horror structures that it can hold are still placed about 30% closer together than in the default pack.
Features
The Bog has a short list of placed features, and most of its plant life comes from Biomes O' Plenty:
- lake water, and patches of grass, ferns, bushes and reeds placed by Biomes O' Plenty;
- a Biomes O' Plenty bog tree feature;
- willows, swamp flowers, flowering lily pads and selenite geodes from Hexerei;
- wild potatoes and wild rice from Farmer's Delight;
- wild flax and cave urns from Supplementaries.
The Bog has the vanilla overworld ore set, with extra ores from the pack. These include the infected diamond ore and black argillite from Born in Chaos, sulfur ore from Butchery, and mithril ore from Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks.
Mobs and structures
The hostile list is the main feature of the biome. The five highest-weighted monsters are spiders, skeletons, creepers, slimes and zombies, each at a weight of 95 or 100. Below them are many horror mobs, including Ghoul, Revenant, Necromancer, Nightmare and Dread Hound, most at weights between 7 and 25. Krampus has the lowest weight in the list. The weighted tables below list every monster.
The water spawns include the Born in Chaos Corpse Fish. The underground water creature list includes glow squids. The water-ambient list is a large group of fish from several mods, including cave-type species. The land creatures are a pig and a box turtle, and the ambient list has bats, roly-polies, snails and dragonflies.
The Bog's structures include graveyard houses, Hexerei covens, Born in Chaos sites, and the swamp structure collection from Nova Structures. The structure table below shows the full placement list.

Tips
- Expect a dense hostile spawn at night. The five most common monsters carry weights of 95 to 100, so bring a weapon and light before crossing the biome after dark.
- Corpse Fish spawn in the water, so take care when swimming through the lakes.
- The Bog has the same ore set as the rest of the overworld, including diamond and lapis, so it is a practical place to mine for them.
- Other swamp-type biomes such as Marsh and Wetland share some of the same hostile and structure lists, so the same kinds of threats appear there.
