Gravel Beach is a coastal biome with three versions, added by Biomes O' Plenty, Regions Unexplored and Terralith. Each version is a shoreline biome with its own climate and its own surface features. Together they cover about 0.9% of Fear Nightfall's land area, and they are the beaches a player is most likely to walk through when exploring a coast.
In Fear Nightfall the beaches have a full hostile mob table at night. Gravel Beach is one of the places where the pack's horror mobs, such as necromancers and Dread Hounds, spawn alongside vanilla zombies and skeletons, so a coast walked after dark can be crowded.
The Biomes O' Plenty version (biomesoplenty:gravel_beach) has a temperature of 0.45 and a downfall of 0.5, and it rains. Its water is dark blue and its sky is pale blue. It keeps the vanilla grass and foliage colouring. It has the fewest surface features of the three versions: no sugar cane or pumpkin patches, and only glow lichen among its vegetation features.
Regions Unexplored version
The Regions Unexplored version (regions_unexplored:gravel_beach) has a temperature of 0.6 and a downfall of 0.6, and it rains. It overrides the grass and foliage tint with its own colours. The mod adds a surface rule that places gravel as the ground, with stone under any stone ceiling. Sugar cane and pumpkin patches also grow here.
Terralith version
The Terralith version (terralith:gravel_beach) is the warmest of the three, with a temperature of 0.8 and a downfall of 0.4, and it rains. It has the same water colour as the Regions Unexplored version. Its surface features include a grass patch of the badlands kind, flower patches, sugar cane and pumpkin patches.
All three versions share a set of decorative features from other mods: ocean and shore barnacles, cave urns and wild flax from Supplementaries, and a cliff feature from Stony Cliffs. Their water is salt water under the Tide mod, which adds coastal fish to it.
Generation
Gravel Beach generates on coasts in cool to temperate climates. Each version has its own climate range, given in the description above.
Biomes O' Plenty has a surface share of 0.13% of land. It is the rarest of the three.
Regions Unexplored has a surface share of 0.43% of land. It is the most common of the three. The mod replaces the vanilla Beach biome with Grassy Beach and Gravel Beach, each with a default weight of 50.
Terralith has a surface share of 0.35% of land.
Gravel Beach is one of the coastal biomes in Fear Nightfall's custom biome table, which shares each climate cell among the eligible biomes by weight. It is not one of the biomes the pack weights at 6×, which include dark forests, Ominous Woods and Spider Nest. Its horror mobs come from the mob mods, not from any extra weighting.
All three versions carry the stronghold-biased biome tag, so a stronghold search prefers them. Several structures from the pack's structure sets can generate here (see the table below).
Features
Every version has the same set of ores. These include the standard vanilla ores (coal, copper, iron, gold, redstone, lapis and diamond), and ores added by the pack's mods: infected diamond ore and black argillite from Born in Chaos, deepslate sulfur ore and salt deposits from Butchery, and mithril ore from Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks.
Wild crop patches from Farmer's Delight, for beetroot, cabbage, carrot and onion, generate in all three versions. Wild flax from Supplementaries grows in every version too.
There are no trees on Gravel Beach. The only plants are the crop patches above, the flax, and the sugar cane and pumpkin patches of the Regions Unexplored and Terralith versions. Ocean and shore barnacles are decorative blocks that generate on the shore.
Mobs and structures
The three versions share the same hostile mob table. The top monsters are spiders, skeletons, creepers and slimes (weight 100 each), followed by zombies (weight 95). The pack's horror mobs fill the rest of the table. These include slime golems (weight 25), necromancers (weight 18), Dread Hounds (weight 7) and bonescallers (weight 5). In the water, Corpse Fish spawn at a low weight.
The versions differ in their passive mobs. The Regions Unexplored version spawns sheep, and the Terralith version spawns turtles. The Biomes O' Plenty version has no passive land mobs. All three have bats for ambient spawns and glow squid in their underground water tables.
The Biomes O' Plenty version has 115 structures that can generate, and the other two have 117. The list includes Structory Towers lighthouses, the Firewell from Born in Chaos, buried treasure, mineshafts, illager camps and hideouts, and village and pillager outpost structures for beaches.
Gravel Beach has the pack's full hostile mob table at night, including the horror mobs. Carry a shield and a light source, and retreat to open ground if a crowd starts to gather.
The Terralith version is the only one with flower patches, and it has sugar cane and pumpkin patches like the Regions Unexplored version. Those two are the better places to gather plant food.
Mithril ore, infected diamond ore and the other mod ores generate in all three versions, so any shore is worth checking for them.
The Biomes O' Plenty version is the rarest and the easiest to miss, so look for it on the coldest stretches of coast.
