Erupting Inferno is a Nether biome added by Biomes O' Plenty. It is hot, dry and full of lava, with a brown fog and a population of ghasts, zombified piglins and magma cubes. Biomes O' Plenty classes it as hostile-leaning. It is not one of the horror-weighted biomes of Fear Nightfall, and it is found only in the Nether.
Description
The biome uses the vanilla Nether cave carver, so its underground shape matches the rest of the Nether. Its ground is mostly netherrack, blackstone and gravel, with magma blocks, fire and soul fire patches and glowstone scattered through it. Lava lakes and lava springs appear on the surface, and the Brimstone blocks added by Biomes O' Plenty grow in buds and clusters across the floor.
The fog is brown (#4f2b13). Water in the biome is a normal blue (#3f76e4), which is unusual for the Nether, and its water bodies hold a set of ambient fish, including Ash Perch, Ember Koi, Magma Mackerel, Obsidian Pike, Volcano Tuna, Crimson Fangjaw, Inferno Guppy, Soulscale, Warped Guppy, Witherfin and Blazing Swordfish.
The biome's sound set is based on the vanilla Basalt Deltas: its ambient loop, occasional additions and mood sounds all come from that biome. It also has its own music track, which can play every 10 to 20 minutes. The music does not replace a track that is already playing. Smoke particles drift up from the ground at a low rate.
Generation
Erupting Inferno generates only in the Nether. Its climate values are a temperature of 2.0 and a downfall of 0, with no precipitation, so it is always dry.
Biomes O' Plenty adds two Nether placement regions. In the common region, the biome takes the parameter space of vanilla Basalt Deltas at one of four points where Biomes O' Plenty replaces vanilla Nether biomes; the other three points take Crystalline Chasm, Undergrowth and Visceral Heap. The rare region places Withered Abyss at the centre and reuses the same four slots, so Erupting Inferno also appears there. Vanilla Basalt Deltas only generates when this biome is disabled in the mod's configuration.
Its share of Nether land is shown in the infobox above.
Fear Nightfall does not weight this biome. It is not on the pack's 6× horror list, and the pack removes the Born in Chaos spawn modifiers from the Nether, so no Born in Chaos mobs spawn here.
Features
Lava and fire are the main features of the biome:
- Lava lakes and lava springs, and lava splatters on the surface.
- Fire and soul fire patches.
- Large and small fumaroles, which emit hazardous heat (see Erupting Inferno).
- Brimstone buds and clusters, which are Biomes O' Plenty decorations made from Brimstone.
Ores generated in the biome include vanilla magma block, blackstone, gravel, gold, quartz and ancient debris ores, along with the small and large debris clusters. Glowstone also generates here. Butchery adds Sulfur ore in deepslate, and Nether Expansion adds its netherrack speleothems, pyroclast crusts and blotted netherrack.
Mobs and structures
The hostile mobs are ghasts, zombified piglins, piglins, magma cubes, endermen and Mutant Enderman. Striders are the creature spawn. Ghasts, zombified piglins, piglins, magma cubes and endermen spawn in groups of four, and striders spawn in groups of one or two. The weights for each mob are shown in the table below.
The biome can hold 87 structures from several mods. Vanilla bastion remnants and Nether fortresses are among them, as are Nether Keep and Port, Nether Skeleton Towers and Camps, Piglin Outposts and Chapel and Sanctum.

Tips
- Fire resistance is the main defence here. Fumaroles deal 1.0 damage (half a heart) to any living entity that is not fire-immune when it steps on one, so stepping on them repeatedly is costly. Fire-immune mobs and players are not hurt by them.
- Snow golems melt in this biome.
- Ghasts spawn in groups of four, and the zombified piglins and piglins around them make the open lava areas crowded. Clear a path to a shelter before fighting in the open.
- Frogs that spawn here are the warm variant.
