Toadstools are mushroom blocks and an item added by Biomes O' Plenty. The set comprises the Toadstool (a single small mushroom that can be picked up and used as an item), the Toadstool Block (the cap block that forms giant mushrooms), and the Potted Toadstool. Toadstools generate naturally in several forest and wetland biomes and in the Fungal Jungle, and one recipe uses them as a food ingredient.
Obtaining
Toadstools are collected in the wild, bought from villagers and occasionally dropped as loot from broken blocks. None of them require a tool tier or advancement.
Natural generation
The Toadstool is placed by a random-patch feature (96 tries, 7 blocks horizontal spread, 3 blocks vertical spread) on the vegetal decoration step. The patch is attempted in roughly one chunk in four, on average, in these biomes:
The Fungal Jungle is the only biome that places giant and small toadstools. It also places an extra toadstool patch, with a count of 2 per chunk. A small toadstool is a single mushroom stem topped by a Toadstool Block. Giant toadstools need grass or mycelium underneath and a clear column above; a huge toadstool is a mushroom stem 2 to 14 blocks tall, capped by a square of Toadstool Blocks.
Trading
A Toadstool is sold for one emerald. The trade has 12 uses and grants 1 experience point per trade.
| Trader | Level | Cost | Result | Max uses |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wandering Trader | 1 | Emerald ×1 | Toadstool ×1 | 12 |
Breaking blocks
- The Toadstool drops itself when broken, and it survives explosions.
- The Toadstool Block drops itself only when broken with a tool enchanted with Silk Touch. Otherwise it drops a random count of Toadstools, drawn from a uniform range of −6 to 2 and clamped to zero, so breaking one without Silk Touch often yields nothing.
Usage
Toadstools have no direct use as tools or weapons. Their uses are as a crafting ingredient, as compost, as a bone-meal target, and as food and bait for certain mod animals and items.
Growth
A Toadstool can be grown with bone meal. Each application has a 40% chance to attempt growing a huge toadstool. The Toadstool is removed first, and if the huge toadstool cannot be placed, the original Toadstool is restored. Toadstools do not spread on their own: their random tick does nothing.
A Toadstool stays in place only while the block below it is in the vanilla mushroom-growth block tag or accepts mushroom placement.
Compost
Toadstools are compostable in a composter. The Toadstool gives a 65% chance of adding a compost layer, and the Toadstool Block gives 85%.
Crafting ingredient
A Toadstool is an ingredient in one recipe, which produces Rabbit Stew. The recipe is unlocked once the player has cooked a rabbit. See the table below for the full ingredient grid.

Item tags
Toadstools belong to several item tags that other mods use. They include the common mushroom tag, the Serene Seasons spring, summer, autumn and winter crop tags, the food tags for Critters and Companions ladybugs and roly polies, the Tide bait-plant tag and the Supplementaries flower-box plantable tag.
