The Aspen Glade is a temperate forest biome added by Biomes O' Plenty. It is an open woodland of yellow-leafed trees over golden grass. Its climate is cool and humid, so it has rain rather than snow, and it can generate a large number of structures, several of them from the pack's horror mods. In Fear Nightfall it covers about 0.35% of the surface land.

Description

The biome adds no custom terrain shape. It appears wherever the climate noise selects it, often at the edge of other forests. Its colours set the mood: the grass is amber (#DDAB4A), the foliage is yellow-green (#D1C24A), the water is blue (#3F76E4), the fog is pale blue (#C0D8FF) and the sky is cool blue (#7CA4FF). The golden grass separates it from the green forests beside it.

The trees are the defining feature. Each tree has a trunk of birch log and a crown of yellow maple leaves, and trees are between 12 and 20 blocks tall. Trees are only placed where the ground is dry, so they do not grow in water. Roughly one tree in twenty is a large yellow maple tree instead of a standard Aspen tree.

Generation

Aspen Glade has a temperature of 0.4 and a downfall of 0.8, which gives it rain instead of snow. Its surface share is 0.35% of the land and its cave share at y = -30 is 0.04%. It is not one of the biomes that the pack weights at 6× (see Horror and Spooky Content), so it is less common than the dark forests and swamps that the pack favours for horror.

The biome can contain 193 structures. Notable ones include the Illager Hideout and Manor, the Dark Tower, the Infernal Pumpkin Patch, the Evoker Fort, the Catacombs, the Clown Caravan, the Firewell and the Fortified Villages. Several of these have a horror theme, so the biome is a place to find dangerous structures. The structure table below lists the full set.

Features

  • Trees: the Aspen trees and the rare large yellow maple tree described above. Fallen birch logs lie on the ground.
  • Plants: grass, ferns, large ferns, sparse barley, reeds, Toadstools and wild flax. Farmer's Delight adds wild carrots and wild onions.
  • Ground decoration: yellow maple leaf piles are scattered across the surface, and silk cocoons from Critters and Companions are placed in the biome.
  • Pumpkins: the vanilla pumpkin patch feature is enabled, so pumpkins grow on the surface.
  • Ores: the standard overworld set of coal, copper, iron, gold, redstone, lapis lazuli and diamond, plus pack additions. Mithril ore is placed by Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks. Born in Chaos adds infected diamond ore and black argillite. Sulfur ore from Butchery is placed in the deepslate layer.
  • Cave urns: Supplementaries adds cave urns to the biome.

Mobs and structures

The biome's monster spawns are led by spiders, skeletons, creepers, slimes and zombies, each with a spawn weight of 95 to 100. Born in Chaos adds a large set of horror mobs at lower weights. The most common of these are the Necromancer (weight 18), the Decaying Zombie (15), the Pumpkin Dunce (8), the Dread Hound (7) and the Bloody Gadfly (7). Rarer mobs include the Senor Pumpkin, the Sir Pumpkinhead and the Pumpkin Bruiser, with weights of 2 to 5. The pack halved the spawn weights of Born in Chaos to stop it crowding out vanilla monsters, so these mobs are less common here than in the stock mod.

The passive spawns are crows (weight 20), sheep, pigs, chickens, cows, foxes, honey golems, wolves and ferrets. Ambient spawns include bats, leaf insects, ladybugs, stag beetles and other insects. Water spawns are fish, and glow squid spawn in underground water.

The tables below list every mob and structure that the biome can spawn.

Tips

  • Carry light at night. The monster weights are high, and the horror mobs spawn on the same surface as the standard ones.
  • Many of the 193 structures are close together. Check a structure's loot before you open its chests, and keep an escape route open near the Dark Tower.
  • The golden grass and yellow leaves make the trees easy to pick out from a distance, which helps when you are navigating.
  • Wolves and foxes are neutral or passive here. Sheep are a steady source of wool.
