The Floodplain is a humid overworld biome added by Biomes O' Plenty. It is a low, wet landscape of lakes, lily pads and jungle-type trees, and it is classed with jungles for many mod and vanilla tags. Floodplains are rare in Fear Nightfall, covering only about 0.19% of the surface, but they are worth knowing about: the biome combines open water with surface lava lakes, and it is a common place for monsters to gather after dark.
Description
The Floodplain is flat and wet. Its ground is grass with scattered water, and most of the surface is taken up by lakes and marshy patches. Its climate is warm (temperature 1.2) and very humid (downfall 2.0), so it rains here, and the rain is the only precipitation the biome produces.
The biome has a green palette: grass is tinted #7fd43d, foliage #5bcd25, and water #3faabe. Fog is pale blue (#c0d8ff) and the sky is #75aaff. Its ambience is the cave ambience with overworld jungle music, which plays at intervals of 12,000 to 24,000 ticks.
Vegetation includes:
- Trees: the biome places a random tree selection. Each tree has a 30% chance of being a sparse oak tree and a 10% chance of being a big oak tree. Otherwise, the tree is an oak bush. The biome also has rainforest-style flowers and grass.
- Water plants: lily pads, huge lily pads and waterlily flowers, along with seagrass, watergrass, tall grass and glow lichen.
- Pack additions: Hexerei adds willow trees, swamp flowers and flowering lily pads, and Farmer's Delight adds wild rice patches. Supplementaries adds wild flax and cave urns.
Generation
Floodplain sits in the warm, wet part of the overworld climate, where the biome's temperature and downfall values place it. Its share of the surface is 0.19% of land in Fear Nightfall, and about 0.04% of the cave layer at y = -30. Because it is so rare, most players will need to search for it, for example with Nature's Compass.
Floodplain is not one of the biomes given 6× weight by the pack's horror spread, which favours bayous, dead forests, Willow Swamp and similar biomes.
The biome can generate 199 different structures, which is a large number for a biome of this size. Among them are several horror structures from Graveyard, Born in Chaos and Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks, such as graveyard houses, Born in Chaos firewells and the catacombs. Villages and jungle temples also appear here.
Features
The biome adds several features that are not found in most other biomes:
- Lakes: water lakes, and both underground and surface lava lakes. Surface lava lakes are the biome's main hazard. Watch for orange pools when you walk across open ground.
- Springs: both water and lava springs can flow from the ground.
- Ores: the full vanilla overworld ore set, including coal, iron, gold, redstone, lapis, copper, and diamond in the regular, medium, large and buried variants. Born in Chaos adds infected diamond ore and black argillite. Butchery adds sulfur ore, and Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks adds mithril ore.
- Geodes and rooms: an amethyst geode, and both standard and deep monster rooms (dungeons). Hexerei adds selenite geodes.
- Other: underwater magma, silk cocoons from Critters and Companions, and stone cliffs from Stony Cliffs.
Mobs and structures
The monster spawns are the most important part of the biome. The most common monsters are spiders, skeletons, creepers and slimes, each weighted 100, followed by zombies at 95. Enderman (weight 10) and witches (weight 5) are much less common.
Floodplain also spawns mobs from the pack's additions. These include Ghoul, Necromancer, Skeleton Creeper, Dread Hound, Dark Vortex and Zombie Clown, as well as several Born in Chaos and Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks monsters that are uncommon but dangerous. Ambient life includes Coal Golem. Slime Golems spawn among the monsters. Water creatures include glow squid in underground water and piranha and several cave fish in surface water.

Tips
- Check the water before you cross it. Lava lakes sit on the surface, and walking into them at night is a quick way to die.
- Spiders, skeletons, creepers and zombies spawn in large groups. Fight them in narrow spaces where they cannot surround you.
- The biome's structures include horror sites, so use the same care you would use in any other haunted area.
- Ores in this biome include Born in Chaos infected diamond ore and Iron's Spells mithril ore, so expect the usual vanilla ore set plus pack ores in the same stone.
