The Red Panda is a tameable passive mob added by Critters and Companions. It spawns in groups of one or two in jungle and rainforest biomes. Red pandas have 18 health (9 hearts) and a movement speed of 0.3. They have no attack goal and never attack, but their alert behaviour makes nearby hostile mobs back away from them, which makes a tamed red panda a useful companion in the jungle.
Spawning
Red pandas spawn naturally in 15 biome entries. Each entry has a spawn weight of 8 and a group size of 1 to 2. The biomes include Jungle, Sparse Jungle, Bamboo Jungle, Tropical Jungle, Rocky Jungle, Jungle Mountains, Fungal Jungle, Rainforest, Sparse Rainforest, Rocky Rainforest, Amethyst Rainforest, Floodplain, Eucalyptus Forest and Amethyst Canyon. The table below lists each entry.
The pack's horror-biome weighting concentrates horror content in forests, taigas and swamps, and it leaves jungles largely unchanged. Red pandas are therefore not tied to the pack's horror areas.
Spawner-generated groups of red pandas have a 40% chance to include a baby. A baby is drawn at 0.6 scale until it grows up.

Behavior
Red pandas use the standard tameable animal AI. Their goals, from highest priority to lowest, are:
- Float in water, and panic when attacked (speed 1.4).
- Alert, described below.
- Sit when the owner orders it to, and relax with the owner while the owner sleeps.
- Breed (speed 1.25) and follow a parent.
- Move toward sweet berries, which tempt them.
- Lie on a bed while sleeping (speed 1.1), and sit on blocks (speed 0.8).
- Sprint after the owner (speed 1.25) when the owner is more than 10 blocks away.
- Wander, look at nearby players and look around at random.
Bamboo is their food. It is the only item in their food tag, and it is the item used for breeding.
Alert
The alert is the red panda's defining behaviour. It is only active when the red panda is not sleeping and is not in water.
- A wild red panda becomes alert when a player comes within 4 blocks. It stops, turns to face the player and plays its alert animation for 30 ticks (1.5 seconds). It does not attack and does not flee.
- A tamed red panda becomes alert when an aggressive hostile mob on its scare list comes within 4 blocks. It reacts the same way.
The scare list for tamed red pandas is bee, enderman, iron golem, llama, polar bear, spider, cave spider, vex, wolf and zombified piglin.
The alert also has an effect on other mobs. A mixin gives zombified piglins, bees, endermen, iron golems, llamas, polar bears, spiders, vexes and wolves an avoid goal at the highest priority. When a red panda is within 16 blocks of one of these mobs, the mob runs away from the red panda. Zombified piglins use speed 2.0 for this flight, and 1.5 when they are further away.
The alert itself does not stop a red panda from being attacked. While alert, the red panda stands still for 1.5 seconds.
Drops
The table below lists what a red panda drops when it dies.
No item drops.
Related items
The Red Panda Spawn Egg places a red panda in the world and stacks to 64.
Acorns are a separate item in the same mod and are not red panda food. Acorns drop from oak leaves, with a 5% to 10% chance that depends on the Fortune level. Acorns are the material of the Acorn Hat, a helmet that adds 4 points of maximum health (two hearts) while worn on the head.
Tips
- Keep a red panda near you in the jungle to make nearby spiders, endermen, wolves and zombified piglins run from it. The effect reaches 16 blocks.
- A tamed red panda will sit and sleep on a bed when its owner sleeps, so a bed in its area keeps it close.
- Sweet berries tempt a red panda, which is useful for moving a wild one toward you.
- Do not count on the alert to protect a wild red panda. It freezes in place when a player comes near, and hostile mobs that are not on the avoid list are unaffected.
