The Amethyst Rainforest is an overworld jungle-type biome added by Terralith. It is hot and very humid, with rain, dense trees with azalea foliage, and a large number of hostile mobs. In Fear Nightfall it is a rare biome, and it is a warm, wet setting for many of the pack's horror mobs.

Description

The Amethyst Rainforest is a warm, wet biome. Its climate values are a temperature of 0.95 and a downfall of 0.9, and it rains rather than snows. The grass is tinted #70D484 and the foliage #C8A7FF, so the tree canopies look purple-tinged compared with a normal jungle. The water is tinted #43D5EE, and the fog (#C0D8FF) and sky (#CEC6FF) are pale blue-violet.

The biome's trees are mostly acacia logs with azalea leaves. Some variants use flowering azalea leaves, and the base of the azalea variant is rooted dirt. The forest floor has the usual jungle plants: grass patches, vines, glow lichen, bamboo light, warm-variant flowers, sugar cane, pumpkin and melon patches, and brown and red mushrooms. Calcite is scattered across the surface in a separate feature.

The biome plays the jungle background music, with a gap of 10 to 20 minutes between tracks. It also plays a cave ambience sound about every 5 minutes. Fire burns out more quickly here, because the biome carries the vanilla increased-fire-burnout tag. Warm-variant frogs spawn in the biome, and wolves here use the rusty texture.

Generation

The biome sits in hot, humid climate space and takes its place in the pack's Fear Nightfall biome table, where each climate cell is shared between the biomes that can generate there according to weight. It covers 0.04% of the land surface in Fear Nightfall, which is far below the Terralith share of about 31% across the whole pack.

The pack does not give the biome the 6× horror weight used for Dark Forest, Ominous Woods, Sleepy Hollows, dead forests, and other horror biomes. It generates at its normal weight. Its mobs are still horror-heavy, however, because most of its hostile spawns come from horror mods (see below).

Features

Trees. The biome uses a random mix of tree types. The default is an acacia-log tree with azalea leaves (acacia_azalea). Other options include a 2 by 2 tree with azalea leaves, a 2 by 2 tree with flowering azalea leaves, a bending acacia, a small azalea tree, a big Hawaiian-style tree, and a jungle bush. Up to 24 or 25 tree attempts are made per chunk.

Plants. Vanilla jungle plants are common: grass patches, vines, glow lichen, bamboo light, warm flowers, sugar cane, pumpkin patches, melon patches, and mushrooms. Melons and pumpkins grow in patches, which gives a player a reliable source of both.

Ores and stone. The biome uses the normal overworld ore set, with the vanilla stone variants (andesite, diorite, granite, tuff). The pack adds some ores on top of the vanilla ones:

  • infected diamond ore and infected deepslate diamond ore from Born in Chaos;
  • black argillite from Born in Chaos;
  • sulfur ore from the Butchery mod;
  • mithril ore from Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks.

Amethyst geodes, monster rooms, and lava lakes are also placed underground and in the surface layers.

Pack-added decoration. The biome also has items from other pack mods: silk cocoons (hanging and standing) from Critters and Companions, wild rice from Farmer's Delight, wild flax and cave urns from Supplementaries, and cliff features from Stony Cliffs.

Mobs and structures

The biome has a long list of hostile mobs. Many of them are horror mobs from Born in Chaos and the Graveyard mod, along with some Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks mobs. The most common hostile spawns are vanilla spiders, skeletons, creepers, and slimes, with zombies close behind. Notable pack mobs include the Dread Hound, the Necromancer, the Ghoul, and the Pumpkin family (Mr. and Mrs. Pumpkin). Harder spawns, such as the Krampus, Mutant Enderman, and Lifestealer, are rare.

Passive and neutral mobs include parrots (the most common creature spawn), sheep, pigs, chickens, cows, wolves, red pandas, ocelots, and pandas. Leaf Insect and Jumping Spider spawn as ambient mobs, and the water spawns include piranhas and several Born in Chaos fish, such as Corpse Fish.

The biome has structures from many pack mods. Notable ones include the Better Jungle Temple, the Catacombs, and the Jungle Tree Village. The full placement tables are shown above.

Tips

Treat this biome as a night hazard. The hostile mob list is long and includes several dangerous horror mobs, so spawn-proof your base with torches or lanterns before dark. Glow lichen and bamboo light are common, so a bright light source is easy to find nearby.

Because the biome's trees are azalea, wood gathering here gives azalea leaves and acacia logs rather than jungle wood. Melon and pumpkin patches are a useful food and crafting source. Fires burn out faster here than in most biomes, so a fire set for warmth or light needs tending.
