Frozen Cliffs is a cold surface biome added by Terralith. Its stone is veined with blue ice, its ground is covered in snow and ice, and it hangs icicles from its rock faces. It is one of the rarest biomes in Fear Nightfall, covering 0.01% of the land surface, so most players reach it only by deliberate exploration.

The biome is not one of the pack's 6× horror biomes, but its monster spawns are dense and include several pack-added horror mobs at low weight. Underground it has monster rooms, lava lakes and geodes, so it is a place to carry light and approach with care.

Description

Frozen Cliffs is a stone biome. The surface is covered by a snow-and-ice layer: the glacial snow surface feature places patches of snow block one to two blocks deep on top of ice, and the freeze pass adds a top layer of snow over the terrain. Blue ice is set into the stone as large veins, and ice columns hang down from the rock faces. Shallow puddles of water, one to six blocks deep, lie in the ground.

The biome's fog colour is a pale grey-blue and its sky colour is a cold grey, so the biome reads as dim and bleak. Its water colour is a deep blue. The biome plays the ambient cave sound at intervals, which is the only mood sound it uses.

Generation

Frozen Cliffs has a temperature of 0 and a downfall of 0.5, and it has snowfall. Its share of the land surface is 0.01%.

The pack gives Frozen Cliffs no special weight. It is not one of the biomes that Fear Nightfall raises to 6× weight, so its rarity comes from the normal Terralith share. The biome does share structure sets with the pack's horror mods, and these structures are placed closer together by the pack, so many of the structures listed below are horror structures. See the table below for the full list.

Features

Frozen Cliffs has the following terrain features:

  • Ice and snow: glacial snow surfaces, blue ice veins in stone, icicles hanging from rock, ice patches and a top layer of snow.
  • Water: puddles of water in the ground, and spring water and spring lava.
  • Trees and plants: snowy trees, flowers, glow lichen, brown and red mushrooms, sugar cane, pumpkin patches and grass patches of the badlands type.
  • Ores: the standard overworld ores, including coal, iron, gold, redstone, copper, lapis lazuli and diamond, with the usual gravel, granite, diorite, andesite and tuff veins. Gravel, sand and clay disks, and underwater magma, also generate.
  • Caves: underground and surface lava lakes, amethyst geodes, monster rooms and deep monster rooms. The biome uses the cave, extra underground cave and canyon carvers.

Mobs and structures

The monster table is led by spiders, creepers, slimes and zombies, which spawn at weights of 95 to 100. Strays (weight 80) and skeletons (weight 20) are also common. Revenants and slime golems appear at weight 25.

The pack-added horror mobs have low weights. Nightmares and dread hounds spawn at weight 7, spirits of chaos at weight 4, and nightmare stalkers at weight 2. Necromancers spawn at weight 18.

Passive and ambient creatures are rabbits (weight 10), Shima Enaga (weight 3), polar bears (weight 1) and bats (weight 10). Water creatures include glow squids, Corpse Fish and Glutton Fish.

The biome's structures include Ice Spider Den and Impaled Icebreaker, along with frozen houses and huts, catacombs, crypts and dead trees from the pack's horror mods. The table below lists every structure the biome can generate.

Tips

  • Watch the monster table at night. Spiders, zombies and strays are the most common threats, and the horror mobs appear at low weight among them.
  • Bring light underground. Monster rooms and lava lakes lie below the surface, and the caves are dark.
  • Ice and snow cover the ground, so walking on ice can be slippery. Look for blue ice in the stone when you dig.
  • Check the structure table before you travel. The Ice Spider Den and the Impaled Icebreaker are the structures to plan for.
