Haze Mountain is a cool, humid mountain biome added by Terralith. It is one of the rarest biomes in Fear Nightfall, covering about 0.01% of the land surface, and it is notable for its hostile mob mix and for the Necromancer and Dread Hound encounters that its spawn table includes. Players mostly seek it out for the terrain and for the ores and structures found in its rocky hills.

Description

Haze Mountain has a grey, low-contrast palette. Its sky color is a pale blue-grey, its fog is a darker grey-blue, and its water is a deep teal. Grass is a muted sage green and foliage a slightly yellower olive, so the biome reads as washed-out compared with the lush biomes around it. Rain falls here rather than snow, and the biome has a temperature of 0.3 and a downfall of 0.6.

The biome is built on the misty mountain feature set from Terralith. Its terrain carries tuff patches and lakes, including a V-shaped lake feature, and lava lakes can form both underground and on the surface. Birch trees and a range of misty tree templates (base, mid, top and birch variants) grow on the slopes, along with windswept-hill trees. The biome also has an amethyst geode and dungeon-style monster rooms in its underground.

Generation

Haze Mountain is a hill biome with temperate and windswept tags, so it is placed in cooler, elevated terrain. Its share of Fear Nightfall's land is 0.01%. The pack's horror rebalance did not weight it: it is not among the biomes raised to 6× weight, so it appears at its base frequency.

Haze Mountain is one of the biomes that graveyard structures are allowed to use, so small graveyards can appear on its slopes alongside Terralith's own structures. The biome also carries a stronghold-biased tag, which makes it a likely place for a stronghold to be placed nearby.

Features

  • Ores: the biome has the usual vanilla ore set, including coal, copper, iron, gold, redstone, lapis, emerald, and diamond in several sizes. Buried and large diamond veins are included. Infested stone and infected diamond ore from Born in Chaos also generate here, and so does mithril ore from Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks.
  • Terrain: tuff, gravel, granite, diorite, andesite and dirt patches are scattered through the rock. Cliff grass from Terralith's canyon features appears on the slopes.
  • Plants and crops: sugar cane, pumpkin patches, wild flax, and wild potatoes from Farmer's Delight grow on the biome's grass.
  • Special blocks: cave urns from Supplementaries and road signs appear in the biome.

Mobs and structures

Hostile spawns are the largest part of the biome's mob table. Spiders, skeletons, creepers and slimes carry the highest weights. Zombies come next, followed by a long list of mods' mobs. Among the less common hostile mobs, Slime Golem has the highest weight (25), followed by the Necromancer (18) and the Dread Hound (7). Krampus and the Lifestealer appear at the lowest weight (1). Passive animals (sheep, pigs, chickens, cows and llamas) spawn in the usual way.

Water spawns include Corpse Fish and Glutton Fish, plus a wide range of fish from Aquaculture and other mods. Glow squid spawn in underground water.

The biome can generate a large number of structures, including illager camps and hideouts, Iron's Spellbooks towers and catacombs, Nova Structures bunkers, mineshafts, and Born in Chaos sites such as the firewell. The generated table below lists all of them, and the spawn table shows the full mob set.

Tips

  • Haze Mountain is uncommon, so expect to explore a large area to find one.
  • Its hostile mob weights are high, so bring armour and a light source before exploring its caves and open slopes.
  • Its stronghold bias makes it a good place to search for a stronghold on a world that has not yet found one.
  • The Necromancer and Dread Hound are rare spawns, so expect to face them only occasionally.
