Emerald Peaks is a cold, high-altitude mountain biome added by Terralith. Its snow-covered slopes and stone cliffs hold an emerald geode feature and a dense mix of ores, and its monster table carries several horror mobs. Players go there for emeralds and deep ores, and the night is dangerous.

Emerald Peaks has a temperature of 0.1 and precipitation falls as snow. Its surface share is very small, so it is rarely met on most worlds.

Description

The biome is built from stone and deepslate, with snow resting on the upper slopes. Its water is a bright blue (#3f76e4), and its grass and foliage tones are a muted blue-grey (grass #6783af, foliage #879daf). The fog is pale grey (#d7d8e1) and the sky is a cool slate (#a5b0bd). The ambient music is the vanilla Stony Peaks track, and the cave ambience plays at intervals.

Snow is laid over the high surfaces by a snow patch feature and then trimmed on steep faces, so the slopes show bare rock between patches. Glow lichen grows on cave walls, and spring water and spring lava appear in the rock. Underground lava lakes form both on the surface and deep below it.

Generation

Emerald Peaks is one of the cold mountain biomes. It is picked by the climate layout, at a temperature of 0.1, and sits among other mountain and snow biomes. Its surface share is listed in the infobox. The biome is not weighted up for horror. The pack's horror weighting raises the forests, taigas, swamps and caves; mountains and peaks stay near their normal weights.

Features

Emerald Peaks has a rich set of ores for a mountain biome. Vanilla coal, iron, copper, gold, redstone, lapis and diamond all generate in their usual places, and the diamond ore has medium, large and buried variants. Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks adds mithril ore, and Born in Chaos adds infected deepslate diamond ore and black argillite. Butchery adds its sulfur ore in deepslate.

The most notable feature is the emerald geode from Terralith. It places a geode whose inner layer is deepslate emerald ore, with emerald ore inside its cavity. It is placed between heights 110 and 290 and is rolled at a 1 in 2 chance per attempt. The geode is a deliberate reason to search the peaks for emeralds, but it is not guaranteed in every chunk. An amethyst geode also generates here.

Infested stone ore is placed as a vanilla ore feature. Monster rooms (dungeons) can generate deep underground.

Mobs and structures

The monster table is led by the vanilla mobs that have the highest weights in the pack: spiders, skeletons, creepers and slimes at weight 100, and zombies at 95. Horror mobs follow. Necromancers (weight 18), Revenants (25), Decaying Zombies (15), Barrel Zombies (12) and Baby Skeletons (12) are common. Rarer threats include Dread Hound (7), Nightmare (7) and Mrs Pumpkin (6). Endermen have weight 10, and the Mutant Enderman has weight 1.

Passive and ambient spawns are sparse. Bats and glow squid appear in the caves, and snow foxes and white rabbits are tagged for the biome. The water spawns are fish, including Bluegill, Perch, Minnow and Brown Trout, and the water creatures Corpse Fish and Glutton Fish.

Many structures can generate in Emerald Peaks, including igloos, the Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks catacombs and the Impaled Icebreaker, the Born in Chaos firewell, and dead trees from The Graveyard. The pack's pillager outposts and several mountain villages also appear here. The generated tables below list the full set of mobs and structures.

Tips

  • Reach a shelter before dark. Revenants (weight 25) and Necromancers (weight 18) are the most common threats after the vanilla mobs.
  • Deepslate emerald ore needs an iron pickaxe or better to harvest.
  • Snow and ice make the slopes slippery to move on. Keep an eye on the drop beneath each ledge.
  • The water here is cold. Fishing is worthwhile, but the water spawns can be dangerous near the lakes at night.
