The Siberian Taiga and Siberian Grove are two cold forest biomes added by Terralith. Both are dense conifer forests with the same hostile mob pool and a similar set of ores and plants. The grove is a mountain biome that receives snowfall, while the taiga is a lowland forest with no precipitation. Both cover only a small share of the pack's land surface.

Description

Siberian Grove

The Siberian Grove sits on mountain terrain and is the snowier of the two biomes. It has the mountain and slope tags used by other mountain biomes, and it uses the vanilla freeze-top-layer feature, which covers exposed surfaces with snow and ice. Its grass is a muted green-teal (#4d836d), while its foliage is orange (#eb8540), so the trees stand out against the snow. The fog is pale grey-blue and the sky is a cold grey.

Siberian Taiga

The Siberian Taiga is the lowland counterpart. It shares the same temperature and the same orange foliage colour, but its grass is greener (#629e77) and it does not receive precipitation. Its sky and fog colours match the grove, so the two biomes look similar from a distance and are easiest to tell apart by snowfall and terrain shape.

Both biomes use the same ambient cave sound and the same water colour (#617b90).

Generation

The Siberian Grove has a temperature of 0.13 and a downfall of 0.8. It receives snow as precipitation. The Siberian Taiga has the same temperature of 0.13 but a downfall of 1.2 and no precipitation. Because both share the same cold temperature, they sit in the same climate band and are placed next to each other by the biome table.

Their share of the pack's land surface is small. The grove covers about 0.01% of land, and the taiga covers about 0.15%. Both biomes are therefore far less common than the forests and taigas around them. The grove is the rarer of the two.

The grove carries the vanilla tag that biases stronghold placement toward it, so strongholds are more likely to generate near grove terrain.

Fear Nightfall changes

Neither biome is in the pack's list of 6× weighted horror biomes. The pack's biome table does, however, concentrate horror content in temperate-to-cool humid forests and taigas, which is where these biomes sit. Horror structures across the pack are placed about 30% closer together, and the structure lists of both biomes include several of them.

Features

Both biomes generate tall conifer trees from their tree features. The Siberian Taiga's tall trees use spruce logs and spruce leaves, and the orange variant uses dark oak logs and dark oak leaves in a mega-pine shape. The two tree types use opposite signs of the same placement noise, so they tend to occupy separate patches rather than mixing evenly.

Both biomes share the same underground ore set. It includes coal, iron, copper, gold, redstone, lapis lazuli, and diamond, including buried and large diamond variants. Pack mods add their own ores here as well. These are infected diamond ore from Born in Chaos, mithril ore from Iron's Spellbooks, and sulfur ore from Butchery. Plant features include large ferns, berry bushes, pumpkin patches, sugar cane, and wild potatoes from Farmer's Delight.

The grove also runs a Terralith feature that removes some of the snow from its mountain terrain.

Mobs and structures

The hostile mob pool is the same in both biomes. Spiders, skeletons, creepers, and slimes are the most common, followed by zombies, ghouls, and revenants. Among the rarer entries are dread hounds and nightmares (weight 7 each), while Krampus has a weight of 1. Passive mobs are sheep, pigs, chickens, cows, wolves, foxes, and rabbits. Many of the hostile entries come from the pack's horror mods, so the monster list is considerably more dangerous than a vanilla taiga.

The grove has 231 structures that can generate in it, and the taiga has 210. Notable structures include the Catacombs, the Clown Caravan, and the igloo. The full list appears in the table below.

Tips

  • Carry a light source and a sword through the grove at night. The hostile pool is weighted toward zombies, skeletons, and spiders, and the rare horror mobs appear in the same spawn tables.
  • The grove is the snowy biome of the pair. The taiga receives no precipitation, so weather there is clear.
  • Strongholds are biased toward the grove, so searching for one near grove terrain is more productive than searching the taiga.
  • Expect the horror mob weights of the pack to apply in both biomes equally, since the hostile lists are identical.
